Genesis GBG800L 8" Bench Grinder with Dual, Flexible Lights and Eye Shield , Green

In dispute of many of the reviews; this came in properly boxed, intact, and everything assembled easily with lights working, tool rests installed easily, safety shields also work as expected. I use this for cutting and scoring metal golf club shafts. I cut and scored 14 shafts. Installed a cutting wheel on right side, and left the abrasive wheel on left side for scoring prior to epoxying, and cleaning up any metal spurs. The full set of 14 shats only took about 20 minutes to cut and score. This bench grinder worked perfectly for my purposes. If I was going to change anything, I would machine a screw driver slot into safety shields machine scew for tighter fit. Otherwise, this grinder exceeded my expectations.

Out of the box, without any assembly, the machine ran reasonably quietly with very little vibration, as others have stated. There was no walking. Two testings scored an average of over a minute for the wheels to stop after power off. To me this shows good bearings. Inclusion of the two lights is a significant plus. I was disappointed to see that the rubber feet are attached to a rather flimsy plastic plate that is held to the metal base by 2 bolts. I question how long the plate will hold up. My initial tests were to grid the cutting edge of an 8 pound wood splitting maul and a 4 pound wood splitting wedge. The coarse wheel handled those tasks well. The only disadvantage, a common one to many bench grinders, is the short distance between the wheels or, if you prefer, between each wheel and the housing. The inclusion of the two lights is a significant plus. Assembly directions were reasonably sufficient for the mounting of the guards and tool rests. There is a host of warnings in the directions, which will be helpful to new users of bench grinders - particularly the rpm rating of replacement wheels. The English language directions seem to be written by someone fluent in English or with English as a first language. I hope that the company found other qualified linguists for the other languages in the manual.

Very nice grinder for the price. Put two quality wheels on it and let ‘er rip! This this has lots of power and runs smooth as glass. Nice finish on all of the painted surfaces.

This grinder personifies the term "Chinese Junk"! Probably the most glaring example I've seen to date - and that's saying a lot!Says 1/2 HP in the listing and 3/4 HP on the sticker on the motor and is in fact no more than about 1/5 HP, if that! Gently holding the wheels between two fingers will keep them from turning on startup, and they wobble and vibrate like crazy when it finally does get up to speed which takes quite a while - and I wouldn't trust those wheels to even function as PAPERWEIGHTS - no way I'd try to grind anything on 'em!Total junk in every way. Do Not buy this grinder if you actually want to USE it! It DOES have an OK paint job - but that's it.Returned for refund. Total waste of time ordering it and trying to use it.

Product delivered quickly with Amazon Prime (ordered after business hours on Thursday 4/21/2011 and received Monday 4/25/2011...order # ending in -0418637). There is noticeable run out (wobble) in wheels, but that's not uncommon with inexpensive bench grinders. More irritating is that the 2 flexible goose neck work light's don't work. Have tested the work light circuit from plug to sockets (and bulbs) and there is continuity, but bulbs don't light up when tool is switched on and running as per instructions. Don't know if this is a widespread problem with these units. It qualifies as an irritating defect only...the grinder will still grind. Obviously this feature wasn't checked in a factory inspection (if any). Also deviating from the instructions, my unit was supplied with identical tool rests instead of a v-grooved left side tool rest.

This grinder was not only had a major manufacturing defect that made it unusable, I think it was also damaged in the packaging.The guards were damaged from shipping (I'm hoping, as there was no actual evidence on the package that is was), and rubbed on the wheels. They were completely bent and skewed. This was fixable though as the guards are only thin sheet metal.However, what made this grinder unusable was that there was a huge amount of wheel wobble. I took the wheels off to investigate. The actual drive shaft was not machined flat! There was a angle to it on the left side that was completely noticeable. I think there was an angle on the right as well, but it was hard to tell for sure. Brutal. Waste of steel and my time.As well, the whole feel of this grinder was that is was not made very well. I returned it for refund immediately.Returning was very easy though. Thank you for making that very easy amazon, and for not having me pay for shipping this very heavy paper weight.
