moddable but not easily
If anyone is still looking for a moddable 858D these days, this one has a PCB labeled "858D.PCB" with date "2018.05.02" with an unknown 20-pin controller chip. User 'lpg' on the EEVblog forum traced the board and posted code if you replace the chip with an AVR daughter board. So this one isn't easily modded but it's at least documented.It works pretty well out of the box for me, the temp seems pretty accurate and auto turn off is working.

don't bother
this is yet another piece of junk from... others have talked about the internal grounding problem; they are spot-on. the internal high voltage wiring is very small gauge for the stated wattage. there is a small circuit board soldered to the back of the front wand connector with no other support. the unit does not hold a steady temperature when operating; this can put the pcb or components at risk for damage. the temperature changes with the airflow setting so it is is not possible to calibrate it accurately. watch eevblog youtube comparing this unit to another, much better unit for more insight. the manufacturer knows about these problems, but obviously doesn't really care.

Inexpensive, and worth the money!
For the limited amount of SMD I do, this works great - exactly as I had hoped.
