Product Description When global warming triggers the onset of a new Ice Age, tornadoes flatten Los Angeles, a tidal wave engulfs New York City and the entire Northern Hemisphere begins to freeze solid. Now, climatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) and a small band of survivors must ride out the growing superstorm and stay alive in the face of an enemy more powerful and relentless than any they've ever encountered: Mother Nature! desertcart.com Supreme silliness doesn't stop The Day After Tomorrow from being lots of fun for connoisseurs of epic-scale disaster flicks. After the blockbuster profits of Independence Day and Godzilla, you can't blame director Roland Emmerich for using global warming as a politically correct excuse for destroying most of the northern hemisphere. Like most of Emmerich's films, this one emphasizes special effects over such lesser priorities as well-drawn characters and plausible plotting, and his dialogue (cowritten by Jeffrey Nachmanoff) is so laughably trite that it could be entirely eliminated without harming the movie. It's the spectacle that's important here, not the lame, recycled plot about father and son (Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal) who endure an end-of-the-world scenario caused by the effects of global warming. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the awesome visions of tornado-ravaged Los Angeles, blizzards in New Delhi, Japan pummeled by grapefruit-sized hailstones, and Manhattan flooded by swelling oceans and then frozen by the onset of a modern ice age. It's all wildly impressive, and Emmerich obviously doesn't care if the science is flimsy, so why should you? --Jeff Shannon Review: Great movie!! - What a great classic action movie! A Comfort Movie That Never Gets Old
I watch The Day After Tomorrow all the time—several times a year, honestly—and it never gets old. It’s not boring at all, but somehow it’s also the perfect movie to fall asleep to. If you’ve seen it before, it’s familiar and comforting; if you haven’t, it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are a lot of interesting facts and concepts woven into the story, and if it’s your first time watching, you’ll find yourself fully invested. There are so many moments where you’re talking to the TV like, “WHY would you do that?!”—but hey, it’s a movie, and they’re never going to make the smartest choice every time. Overall, it’s a really great film with suspense, rewatch value, and that rare ability to be both exciting and oddly relaxing. A classic in my book and always worth another watch.

A Star-Studded Summer Blockbuster Apocalyptic Disaster Movie
I was 2/3rds of the way thru the film before I realized I had seen it before but couldn’t remember how it ended. Not the major film but not a minor one either – the special effects and artwork are extra-ordinary, quite imaginative, the frame-to-frame flow is fluid. The critics agree with me: Rotten Tomatoes said "a ludicrous popcorn flick filled with clunky dialogues, but spectacular visuals save it from being a total disaster" and Roger Ebert described the film as "profoundly silly" but nonetheless said the film was effective and praised the special effects. The only reason why I gave this four stars instead of three is because of the visuals. The most believable parts of the film were the self-serving politicians and the First Responders – law enforcement officers, paramedics, EMT's, firefighters, hospital doctors and nurses and staff, and accidental heroes. The best actor’s performance came from Glenn Plummer as Luther, the street-dweller and his dog, who subsists on instinct. Dennis Quade and Jake Gyllenhaal are a good pairing and held my interest. I get the feeling that the actors were just in it for the dosh. The script was peppered with comedic elements, with an underlying serious message of the severity of sudden climate change: “These past few weeks have left us all with a profound sense of humility in face of nature’s destructive power. For years we operated under the belief that we could continue consuming our planet’s natural resources without consequence. We were wrong.” – Kenneth Welsh (VP Becker) The snowbound Statue of Liberty near the end may be a nod to Planet of the Apes. All in all, the film is fast-paced and typical of the genre; a satisfying diversion.

Impact Remains
I have watched this movie several times on TV and it never fails to enthrall and frighten me with the awesome possibilities of Nature's forces.I would take the message of our careless abuse of natural resources to heart and since we create the problem of pollution we can find a solution( or several ) to improve the quality of the air we breath and share with all living creatures.Nature can't be controlled completely but we can learn to cooperate as a global community. And just like peace it begins with each of us. The prospects of another ice-age followed by or preceeding global flooding is very possible as we all are familiar with the story of Noah's flood and many ancient cultures mention the flood which gave birth to new life. The message in this movie should not be taken lightly we do need to take better care of our environment. As we approach Earth's completed cycle of its 11,000 year journey(the Mayan calendar was interpreted as approximately 25,000 years) and it reaches the position in the center of our galaxy (culminating around the first day of Winter 2012) our planet will wobble and more than likely more volcanoes will erupt and climate change will occur that includes the global flooding mentioned in Noah's day(Old Testament of the Bible) just as it's doing now.The Earth is billions of years old but extinction of any species is always possible.Humans survived the last ice-age and global flooding we can survive again as long as we know what is happening---just don't panic. I found this movie to be an edge of the seat thriller packed with alot of unsettling more than possible real life special effects.Frozen air can destroy machinery and life forms can be flash frozen. The delicate balance of ocean currents can affect air flow masses and there is always the possibilities of superhurricanes, catogory 5 plus tornadoes combining together and tidal waves created by storm surges. These are happening at this time. And I will mention the fact the poles keep our atmosphere cooler and if they do melt all at once as Earth heats up ,the water rises and then begins to create steam and a jungle (greenhouse) effect. The temperatures and humidity would reach unbearable proportions for most life forms. As far as the dialogue is concerened it is appropriate for the movie, kept it going and being concerned about family members, community and the need for survival is very human.I don't believe I have ever watched a scarier movie than this one whose only monster is the uncontrollable violent forces of Nature fighting to survive and the good Earth----our only home in this universe) conquors all. I give the movie 5 stars for excellence in getting a difficult message across as a warning about the effects of global changes. What took earth billions of years to create and evolve in many life forms as flora and fauna humankind has managed to affect with our pollution of perhaps a century that can very likely bring about our demise.Take it seriously..it's happened in the Earth's past.

This film is really upsetting with the effects of a high level of realism. The Steelbook is really beautiful, the finish is matte, simple and sober.

This is a fantastic movie and in awe every time I watch it on dvd!!! Now got the bluray so can feel the setting and cold better. It seemed more work than it should be to find and get this exciting and realistic video, compared to gun slinging westerns. It was mentioned and parts displayed this week on the "Nature of Things" cbc with episode, "Wild Wild Weather". The facts in the movie are real and in recent published science research the notion of the AMOC failing is getting real while they coach their research now with emphasis on the SOOC, PMOC and Subpolar Gyre in mind, thinking perhaps they can support and save the PMOC. We can't "tough guy", shoot our ways through the carelessnesses gripping this world while using and wasting it up, are the clear messages here. I'm in Canada with a top down view from here, with a southpark mouth and head, flapping from side to side which increases the perspectives and airflow :) Really glad I got this before they stop making media discs for us. An excellent movie to watch and consider :)
