Rang De Basanti

This movie is about a young woman from England who comes to Indian on her own to make a Documentary about her Grandfather's Diary written in the 1920s about the Indian Independence. She chooses a group of friends to assist her with the project, who believe that the Revolution had nothing to do with them and their current lives in the India of today. Through the process, the find that not only do they have much in common with the characters they play in the film, but that they too must make a stand for what they believe it. It was one of the most beautiful and moving films I have seen in some time, and had a lot of humor mixed in between the powerful images and messages. I would recommend this film highly to anyone, even non-fans of Bollywood. Another stunning performance by Aamir Kahn.

This is one of the best movies I've seen in some time!! I always liked Aamir Khan, but now I am a total fan!! I love Sharukh Khan, he is handsome, whimsical, a good actor, endearing......but Aamir Khan is an actor's actor! I also saw "Gajini" recently, and was blown away at his range. This movie is a great look at the younger generation of Indians and the angst they have along with any other group of young people you might pick around the world. They are carefree, happy go lucky, and don't take life too seriously until a young British woman comes to India to make a film about their history. What happens shakes up their lives forever. I use this film in my classroom as well. It's a wonderful, entertaining, and life changing film. See it.

It's an anti-India movie disguised as something else, beware.

This is a brilliant movie which superimposes the atrocities of British occupation of India with that of modern India frought with corruption and oppression. The key message is of course if you don't like what is going on in your government get involved and perhaps change it from within. The teachings of Gandhi of peaceful non-violent non-cooperation and "resist not evil" seem hardly effective in solving the corruption of government in India or the U.S. especially when peaceful protest is suppressed and even outlawed. No one of course condones the actions of these 5 youth who have awakened. But the time is coming when the disenfranchised rise up and over-thrown their oppressors whether it is a fascist government or fake democracy, and some will martyr themselves to awake their fellow countryman to permanent change.

Rang De Basanti is a very excellent film! I originally rented it from Netflix and was so blown away I had to purchase it. I am from the USA, but am a big fan of films from India. I have watched many and bought quite a few. I say this so that it is clear that I am not a first time purchaser. I purchased an "all region" version with English subtitles. Although I am used to innacurate translations, I must say that I am very disappointed with this particular DVD. They dubbed in Hindi (I think) OVER some of the English parts and there weren't any subtitles for these parts of the movie. Other parts of the movie just didn't have ANY subtitles, and I don't mean a line here or there but large sections. As I said, I LOVE this movie, but English speakers beware. I don't remember if there were any Region 1's available, but if so, buy those!

A brilliant Hindi film, though the plot device upon which the second half of the film depends, is somewhat weakly introduced to the overall plot.to the extent that some may say is a bit unfair to the unsuspecting viewer. Nevertheless, it is well worth buying this remarkable film to see exactly what I mean. Few Western films could manage to keep ones attention for as long as this movie is, so all things considered it is undeniably excellent.

I can't stress this enough. This is an absolute masterpiece of a film! I loved every moment of it! Will teach you an important life lesson: stand up for what is just and true, you must be brave and take the first step when no one else seems willing...

This is one of the best movie I have ever watched. Imposing the work,the concept of freedom fighters in todays corrupt India...story line is fabulous, acting is great, songs are wonderful. Aamir Khan has done an excellent job with comedy and serious role. Rest of the actors have done justice to their role. I rather not give away the story. I have already watched this movie 3 times and will watch often..it's a got to have movie..

Earlier this used to cost 800/-. I ignored (my bad). Later it went to 2000. Recently, in a limited time sale, price came down to 1000. So bought it. Still for 1000, it's worth it.

Diesen Film zu rezensieren ist schwer, und sich eine Meinung dazu zu bilden auch... und das nicht etwa, weil er schlecht gemacht ist, ganz im Gegenteil.Die Story ist originell: die junge Engländerin Sue McKinley will aus dem Tagebuch ihres Großvaters einen Dokumentarfilm machen. Der hatte in den 20er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts mit einer Gruppe indischer Revolutionäre um den jungen Bhagat Singh zu tun. Als die Finanzierung scheitert, macht sich Sue auf den Weg nach Indien, um mit einem privaten Minimalbudget und auf eigene Faust zu drehen. Ihre indische Freundin Sonia unterstützt sie beim Casting, Sue findet ihre Ideal-Besetzung aber erst, als sie eine Gruppe von Studenten kennen lernt, die enge Freunde von Sonia sind - und Teil einer Jugendkultur, die Patriotismus für ein Relikt aus alten Zeiten und politisches Engagement in einem durch und durch korrupten System für glatte Zeitverschwendung hält. Also hängt man gemeinsam ab, veranstaltet Trinkspielchen und Motorradrennen und schlägt die Zeit tot. Was nicht heißen soll, dass die vier unsympathisch wären - sie sind ungeheuer liebenswert, und man schließt sie binnen Minuten ins Herz. Da ist Karan (Siddarth), dessen reicher Vater bis zu den Ohren in schmutzigen Regierungsgeschäften steckt, Sukhi, der komische Chaot (Sharman Joshi), der besonnene Muslim Aslam (wundervoll: Kunal Kapoor) und DJ (Aamir Khan), der sein Studium eigentlich längst hinter sich hat und doch vom Leben an der Uni und von seinen Freunden nicht lassen will.Die erste Hälfte des Films ist in hellen Farben gemalt und strotzt nur so von witzigen Situationen (beispielsweise hat DJ keinen blassen Schimmer, dass Sue fließend Hindi spricht, baggert sie unverschämt an und stellt sie seiner Mutter als Braut aus London vor - nur um verspätet herauszufinden, dass sie jedes Wort verstanden hat. Allerdings "zündet" dieser Gag widerum nur im Original und geht in der deutschen Synchronisation sang-und klanglos unter). Die Studenten reisen gemeinsam mit Sue kreuz und quer durch Indien, um ihren Film zu drehen, und langsam findet ein Sinneswandel statt: sie identifizieren sich zunehmend mit den Revolutionären, die sie darstellen. Das wäre an und für sich kein Problem, aber als plötzlich eine persönliche Tragödie geschieht, die die gesamte Gruppe beeinträchtigt, setzt das eine brandgefährliche Dynamik in Gang: der friedliche Marsch gegen ein großes Übel (das für diese Tragödie verantwortlich ist) wird von den politischen Instanzen nieder geknüppelt, und die vormals so gleichgültigen Studenten mutieren zu wütenden Radikalen.Ich gebe es offen zu, dass diese Entwicklung mir heftiges Bauchweh macht - es ist eine alte Frage, wie weit der Protest gehen darf, wenn die "normalen" Mittel einem in einem verkrusteten, korrupten Staat kein Gehör verschaffen. Die Entscheidung der Jungs moralisch mit denen der Rebellen vor 80 Jahren gleichzusetzen und sie unkritisch als Helden zu feiern halte ich gelinde gesagt für kontrovers. Wenn man das, was da geschieht, allerdings als Teil einer Kettenreaktion begreift, die sich irgendwann nicht mehr umkehren lässt, dann kann man leichter damit umgehen. Bequem ist der Film trotzdem nicht - aber ich liebe ihn trotzdem unendlich für seinen Mut und die leidenschaftliche Kraft, mit der er den Zuschauer überfährt wie ein D-Zug.Und es gibt noch so viel mehr zu lieben an diesem Film: die phantastische Musik vom indischen Klangzauberer A.R. Rahman, die umwerfende Ensembleleistung aller Schauspieler (noch extra zu erwähnen wären die wunderbare Alice Patten, die für die Rolle der Sue extra Hindi lernte und Atul Kulkarni, der als Laxman Pandey sehr beeindruckend einen stur-nationalistischen Hindu gibt, der erst in der Gruppe lernt, über seinen engstirnigen Tellerrand hinaus zu sehen). Und Aamir Khan - natürlich. Die Rolle des DJ zu akzeptieren hieß für ihn, einen Mann zu spielen, der fast 15 Jahre jünger ist als er, und er macht einen Triumph daraus. Mehr noch - nach fünf Minuten hat man den Schauspieler hinter der Rolle vergessen und sieht (fast) nur noch DJ. Sein unverschämter Witz lässt einen immer wieder laut lachen, seine aufkeimende, unheimlich zärtlich und zurückhaltend erzählte Romanze mit der temperamentvollen Sue ist ein reiner Genuss. Ihn in der zweiten Hälfte an den brutalen Instanzen verzweifeln zu sehen tut körperlich weh. Und auch hier gilt wieder, was ich schon einmal gesagt habe: UNBEDINGT auf Hindi schauen. Andreas Fröhlich ist ein guter, sehr erfahrener Synchronsprecher, aber bei aller Liebe - an die Tiefe und emotionale Wucht des Originals kommt er nicht heran.Trotz mancher Zweifel an der Botschaft ist "Rang De Basanti" ein großartiger Film geworden, der einen noch tagelang verfolgt. Wer den Mut hat, sich dem auszusetzen, sollte es unbedingt riskieren.

Aamir Khan ist super, aber nicht in dem Film-leider! Das Thema ist recht unverständlich, leider nicht die beste Leistung von Aamir Khan und recht laaang gezogen. Musik ist auch nicht so toll (aber das ist ja immer Geschmackssache). Ich hab ca. die Hälfte geschaut und musste dann abbrechen. Kann ich leider nicht empfehlen.

It says DVD. It also Blu Ray. But this is just a DVD. I took the risk despite my confusion and now I have my own copy of the film, which is no bad thing.I just really really want them to release this on Blu-Ray. So very very much.

it seems dvd has been upscaled to 1080p bluray .Some scenes are of dvd quality and some are dvd only :(
