My grandpa taught me, all my cousins & siblings how to play chess. I’d play it with him nearly every time I saw, & we’d talk about everything, from our interests to history, family, philosophy, school, you name it. It was where we’d bond the most. It probably doesn’t seem like much but trust me when I say that chess was his thing & what he was known for. & the conversations I remember & appreciate the most with him were while playing chess. He passed away back in 2019, but I luckily have moved somewhere relatively close by to his grave. For Father’s Day I gave him a king piece from this set, & left a queen for his wife I never got to meet. I know he’d love it. Like many cemeteries eventually the things left behind get cleaned up, especially around winter. So I regularly replace the chess pieces I give him. I start with a king & give him every piece until I end with the final king. Then buy a new set. These are the absolute best chess pieces out there for not needing the board, & not spending a lot since I regularly need to replace them. The fact they’re hand carved & you can tell makes them a lot more special & personal. I love these chess pieces so much, & I really appreciate there is a set as nice as these for such a low price. It makes it so much easier to make sure my grandpa is always resting with some chess pieces for him. I’ll definitely be buying this set again once I go replace all the pieces again.

These are very good pieces for the price; I was pleasantly surprised at how finished and polished the pieces look and feel. They are sturdy (good weight) and true to the size. What I also need to mention is their wonderful service. My order came with the black knight missing and one extra pawn - understandable, people pack these things, human beings make mistakes. I contacted the email provided in the card enclosed within the package and they contacted me within a day, apologized for the mistake and arranged for a replacement - which came in three days!! No hassle, no games. I am glad I got these; you will not find better quality or service for this price. Highly recommend.

First off price! The price was very cheap, that being said what I was expecting was way worse then what I received! These are fantastic!!! Weight is a bit lighter then I was expecting but all in all I can't wait to run many many many games with them! These are going to be staying on this board until I can/learn to make my own! The board was made by me I just didn't have the means to make the pieces so I turned to Amazon! Can't say I'm displeased in any way these are great! If you or someone you know is looking for nice wooden pieces to put on the board get these!

The complete set arrived ahead of schedule, in good condition with no defects. First impression out of the box was that the good reviews were reliable. I was immediately pleased by the look and quality. That is not to say that the pieces are finely crafted, but overall they are well formed and finished. If the knights received a little more work and the castles were a little taller, this set could easily command a niche in the market for five or six more bucks. Castles are the second most powerful pieces on the board, but are commonly made as the second smallest pieces these days. Perhaps the manufacturers do not even play chess. The pieces diminish in height with each space away from the king, so the castles are made the smallest except for the pawns. They are easily identified, so their size is not a real problem. But I think ASNEY should make the castles a little taller and knights with a little better detail, for a few dollars more. I was thinking of buying a smaller board, but find that this set works well for me on the fifteen inch board I already have. I also find that I like the look and feel of this chess set, that I enjoy using it so far just to study the game by myself. I'm glad to have this set for fourteen bucks and recommend it.

I ordered these pieces to go with a chess board my father made. It is a wooden board and the pieces look perfect on it. They are just the right size and color as seen in the pictures I included. The quality is good. They were packaged nicely and came with nice pull string pouches for each color set. I didn't give a 5 out of 5 for craftmanship only because the felt pieces on the bottoms weren't all centered properly on the piece bottoms. Some were slightly off center. A minor flaw, but I thought I should note it. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase!

I've had this chess board without pieces for a while, and been wanting to get some wooden ones for it. Had these on my wish list, and they went on sale, so I had to pull the trigger. Excellent value for the money. These are a little bigger than a lot of pieces I looked at on here. They're not weighted, but seem just big and hefty enough not to need it. I do see minor little flaws that some people might complain about (ie slight color variations, one is missing a little finish at the top, so there's a tiny little area of raw wood), but not enough to deduct a star for, in my eyes. It comes in a cool box, with two cool carry bags (always nice not to have to divide all the pieces during setup. You can just hand your opponent their bag. Good way to randomly pick who goes first, too. Let them pick one).

These chessmen seem to be the perfect replacement for the plastic pieces that come with some gaming tables: They're affordable, they look great (for the most part), they're large enough for small and medium boards, and they seem pretty durable. There are some things that you should know before buying, though: They're very lightweight, and they're not advertised as "weighted" or anything, so just exercise caution and don't sneeze while playing or use these outdoors in a breeze (you won't have a fun time). My main complaint is that the material of the carrying bags that they shipped with had adhered to some of the pieces, resulting in damage to the wood finish when removed.

We purchased a fancy elevated hand made vintage wooden chess board as a gift for a family member. It did not come with pieces and we needed matching wooden pieces fast. We bought this set and I assumed they'd be temporary until the recipient could find nicer ones. However, they are actually quite good, especially at this price point! - All wood. Matches well to classic wood boards. - There's felt on the bottom, albeit very thin and cheap type, but it functions to prevent scratching the board and slides. - Didn't measure the King. But it's not tiny. - pieces are perfect size for boards that are approx 1"X1" squares.
