SYNOPSIS Featuring the classic Foreigner line-up of Jones, Gramm, McDonald, Greenwood, Gagliardi and Elliott, this show captures the essence of a group who would go on to become one of the best-selling bands of all time. On April 27 1978, after their self-titled debut album had spent a year in the US Top 20, rock’s conquering heroes played a sold-out show at London’s legendary music venue, the Rainbow Theatre. Opening with 'Long, Long Way From Home', the band’s legion of fans were treated to a magnificent display of musicianship and performance, including local hit singles, 'Feels Like The First Time' and 'Cold As Ice', as well as an exclusive preview of two tracks from the upcoming ‘Double Vision’ album. Forty years on, this definitive performance by the original band has been restored from the original film reels, remixed and remastered for this release.

This is a REALLY good time capsule from 1978...
This is highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of 1970's Rock & Roll. It's not "Greatest Hits Live" - which is what most concert videos are these days. While that format is enjoyable - what you have here is much more rare. A complete concert performance of a band captured before they reached their greatest success. The video quality is very good, obviously sourced from film and not lesser quality video. The aspect ratio is 4x3 (1.33), not 16x9 (1.78) which is typical of the time period. Audio is also quite good - with DTS Master Audio and stereo options. Neither video nor audio are perfect - which adds to the "you are there" quality. For examples - there are a couple of camera shots where the audience is briefly in the way - and a few instances of audio feedback. But again - those imperfections add to the realism of the event. This is a strong performance with a lot of effort and genuine enthusiasm put forth. This is a concert that includes the original lineup of a band on the way up and making the most of their unexpected success. As a new band thrust into the headliner role - they play every song from their first album plus a couple from the upcoming Double Vision album. It works because of the strength of the songs on that first album. I'd almost forgotten how great some of those album tracks are - and they played the hell out of them live. Several featured extended instrumental sections woven into the performance on Guitar (Mick Jones), Keys (Al Greenwood), Drums (Dennis Elliott) - even flute (Ian McDonald ex-King Crimson). On a couple of the extended jams vocalist Lou Gramm even jumps in on a second drum kit. Very cool. And speaking of vocalist Gramm - he really lets it rip - wow. His talent is really captured here. Worth the price of admission right there.

This is the ONE you want if you are a Foreigner fan!
Just watched it twice.... and enjoyed every second. The classic lineup at the peak of their potency ripping through a set at the legendary Rainbow club in the UK... I only wish it was longer! It is a full frame presentation but when I zoomed in to get a widescreen view on my set the cropped area isn't too important and the picture quality holds up well. Mick is playing his black Les Paul like a man with something to prove, Lou is demonstrating why he was the only man to rival Paul Rodgers in the vocal department and the band kept up with these two legends!Watching this sure makes the recent lineup featuring Kelly Hanson on vocals and a complete replacement band ... seem a bit like a tribute band. I can't believe Mick Jones may think that band continuing under the Foreigner banner even without a single founding member on stage is a good idea. A guilty pleasure? Fun? yes to both, but calling them Foreigner isn't right..... this film is all you need as exhibit 1 in the case for retiring the name of Foreigner , particularly if Mick can not continue to perform.

Audio and video sync slightly off on first two songs
This blu ray just came in the mail. Popped it in the player and started watching. Into the second song now and the audio is not exactly synced with the video so far. Second song is not as bad off as the first, but still noticeable. On song three the audio/video sync is pretty good and seems fine the rest of the disc based on a quick skip through the chapters. The audio and video quality is much better than many late 70s era concerts I've seen. Never got to see Foreigner back in the day when they were just hitting it big (or any time later for that matter), so am glad this release came out. Would have given it four stars if not for the sync issues at the start of the disc.

Finally!
Wow! Absolutely phenomenal! This is what Foreigner fans have been waiting for. Tremendous show! The songs are great, and the sound is top notch. These versions of "Starrider" and "Headknocker" are incredible. Kinda neat to see Lou on the drum kit. Ed Gagliardi gets a bit too much microphone time during "Headknocker," but this is a great show. Worth every penny. Anyone who buys this bluray, dvd, or mp3 will not be disappointed.

Everything I expected and more!
I was 14 when Foreigner's debut album was released and I listened to it front and back, many times! Yes, there were a few "radio hits" but the whole album was amazing. This concert DVD shows the original line up in excellent form. It's not just the "Lou and Mick" show...all 6 are performing as a true, well rehearsed and talented band. Back in the day, bands that sounded as good as Foreigner...there was this kind of urban myth saying "don't see them live, the songs will be exactly the same as on the album!"...nothing could be further from the truth. Yes ~ listening to the original musicians play these songs made them sound the same but in a GREAT way with so much more around the edges. Mick Jones guitar work is worth the price of the DVD alone. Solos, longer versions (Star Rider is a stand out!)...true fans won't be disappointed and anyone that became fans after Foreigner 4's hits should watch this to see what all of the early fuss was about. Worth every cent!!! Can't wait for my 2nd watching. Turn it up!!

The Original Lineup
The original lineup of Foreigner were loose and had a harder edge live. I always loved that about classic Foreigner and now we have a respectable document to testify to the power of this young band who were just beginning their headliner status journey. Although you can't expect perfection in a presentation this old, it's raw energy is perfect and seriously light years better than having nothing from this era of the band. Now bring on something from the Head Games or "4" tours before they band went down the synth pop road beginning with AP.

Brilliant concert, a must for all Foreigner fans.
I really loved watching Foreigner perform all those great songs, some I had never heard before. Lou gramm was amazing as lead singer, with a fantastic voice and lots of energy, a great front man. Mick Jones is a great guitar player and all the other guys in the band are very talented musicians. I loved all the songs especially The Damage Is Done, I Need You, Woman Oh Woman and of course Hot Blooded. Would have loved to have been at The Rainbow at the time and seen Foreigner live. I think any Foreigner fan will love watching this concert again and again. Fantastic buy!
