Big upgrade from my 1990's opener
I purchased this garage door opener to replace a Stanley model from the 1990's which cracked the drive gear housing. Rather than buy the replacement part for $40 plus shipping, I chose to replace the whole unit and I am very glad I did. The install was fairly straightforward since I was replacing an existing system and the wiring was all compatible. First impression: The system is dainty and quiet. I would say the Genie motor housing is half as big as my old opener but my old opener was a big empty box of old tech so that makes sense. Keypad remote is a nice extra and straightforward to program. Took me two tries as I think it didn't register one of the digits in my pin so I had to reset it and start over which the instructions also covered. Install hiccups: (1) You are supposed to tension the chain until there is a 1/4" gap between the chain and the bottom of the rail. I couldn't get anywhere close to this tension without it binding hard so I chose to let it sag a bit lower. (2) The instructions are very accurate and actually pretty amazing and should be applauded. At one point, the instructions direct the user to carry out three steps to connect the chain bar to the motor housing but the first two are for chain drive and the latter is for belt drive. Not even close to a real issue but worthy of an edit in my opinion. (3) You are hereby warned to wear disposable gloves. The bar is absolutely covered in lubricant as is, of course, the chain. Again, you've been warned. So far: I can't stress how much quieter this unit is than my old opener. Sitting on a deck above the garage, we cannot hear it unless we listen for it (garage roof is concrete). No, it is not silent, but it is miles less obnoxious than old models of openers. Warranty: my remotes came scuffed and cut up. Genie was very responsive through their online chat support (phone support has unreasonably long wait times.) It seems that the metal visor clip which ships detached from the car remotes can get in front of the remote and slice into the plastic. Not a deal breaker but after spending a long time installing the opener and the keypad, the car remotes were the last thing I opened so ... oof. In all, I would highly recommend this opener.

Good For The Price
This is exactly what was expected from an inexpensive opener. I unpacked it and checked the contents to the parts list to insure everything was there. It was fairly easy to follow the instructions for the basic installation. I took one additional trip to the store for a needed piece of 2x4 to provide a good place to secure the motor unit. Working alone, the installation and basic set up took about 4 hours. I did have a problem (probably my fault) figuring out the written instructions on how to program the wireless keypad, and the universal remote in my Chevrolet Blazer. A call to customer service had a long expected waiting time, but they called back after 30 minutes. The representative then quickly walked me though the correct set up procedure in order to get both things working successfully. The overall quality of the opener itself seems good, but I would consider the keypad and accessories a bit on the flimsy side, especially compared to the components of my old Craftsman 3/4 HP opener. I suppose it's a sign of the times and the manufacturer's cost cutting efforts. I guess time will tell on how durable they really are.

Very impressed
This was a replacement for a 1990 vintage opener. I'm dumbstruck by how quiet this is. You can barely hear the opener itself. Even with the chain drive this is whisper quiet. Way quieter than even my own 2005 screw unit. The instructions are very good. You can even download the BILT app which has the same instructions presented in a 3d environment where you can pan and zoom around the hardware for each step, pretty cool. This was installed on an aluminum double wide door that's painted on the outside and has insulation on the inside. Handles it completely fine assuming your door springs are adjusted to the proper tension. The included wire does have a white side and a white/black side unlike what's been said in other reviews. There are instructions for reversing the release mechanism in the extremely rare case that you would need to, unlike what's been said in other reviews. Setting the opening and closing limits is easy as can be. Just be careful programming the down limit as you can put so much pressure on it that the rail will deflect/bow. Only go down until your bottom seal compresses slightly and the rail is still straight. The rail length is a little shorter than some older openers. I was able to use the included angle iron strips to connect into the existing mounting angle iron mounts coming down from the ceiling. No repositioning of mounts necessary. The remotes are pre programmed and it's easy to program a new code into the outside wall mount remote. I also programmed a homelink car built-in remote with no trouble. Overall this thing works perfectly, is impressively quiet, and is easy to set up and program. I'm thoroughly impressed with it, especially considering that it is on the lower end in terms of price.

Works very well.......but?
First off, I've installed a few garagw door openers over the years. In fact I installed the opener that this one replaced (back in 1982) so I do have a little experience. I also have some background in electronics, too. OK, this came promptly was was packaged extremely well. Very organized and hardware was in color coded bags. It was a pretty straight-forward install.... mechanically. But here's my main beef. Instructions said it cam with TWO spools of wire ( for the electric eye and wall mount) It said one was striped and one was white. However, it only came with ONE spool of double wire (it was enough) but there was NO color-coding. It was all white. When I intially wired it up, nothing worked. It specifies where the white and striped wires go on the powerhead, but gives no specs for the electric eyes! Nowhere is that mentioned in the instructions. So it was sort of trial and error, checking wires with a multi-meter. When I finally got the right combo, I had LED's lit on both electric eyes. Again, there was no mentione of that in the instructions. Neither was there any procedure for aiming them. Again, trial and error. Once the wiring was correct and the LED's lit, aiming was easy... but there is no mention of that in the instruction. The wire they DID provide was very, VERY thin, and easily broke off when trying to strip it. Fortunately, I had enough older wire left over (that WAS color-coded) to finish the job. Though I would have happily paid a few bucks extra for a decent gauge, color coded wire. I spent more time wiring it that I did with all the mechanical installation. It does work great though. Fairly quiet, and the programming is pretty straight-forward. And yes, I would buy it again.. but I'd spring for a decent coded wire.

Genie vs Craftsman
This replacement door opener was easy to install. Works great. The keypad was easy to program as well as the remote control for the car. Also easy was programming my car garage door opener. It's very quiet compared the Craftsman opener on my other garage door. I was hesitant to get the Genie rather than another Craftsman, but there was a signification price difference. I'm very glad I went with the Genie.

GREAT product
Great product and super easy to install! I read other reviews saying that the directions weren't clear. I'm guessing genie changed them, because a kindergartner can follow what came in the package. Very CLEAR, CONCISE and EASY to understand. I installed this by myself. A helper probably would be in the way. I balanced the assembled opener on a ladder whilest attaching the door side of it. Entire job was around 3 hrs. (Including beer breaks) The unit replaced 1 of the 25+yr old Sears Craftsman units I had that finally bit the dust. This is SO MUCH quieter and easier operating that I am still going to replace the working Craftsman. (So both doors match) It's priced completely and delivered to my garage. If you are looking at this opener, BUY IT. (I'm over 60 and found this incredibly easy to install...by myself... Don't let mediocre reviews sway you)

Good value
My 20 year old opener died and I wasn't looking forward to installing a new unit. I checked into having one professionally installed. It was ridiculous how expensive the quotes were. So I ordered this opener and wrangled a friend into helping me. This definitely isn't a one person job. Just getting the chain lined up took two of us about 30 minutes. That being said, most of the installation was pretty straightforward. After installation I had a problem with the remote openers. I called the Genie Company for help. I talked to a very nice person who walked me through troubleshooting and correcting the problem. I was worried that a chaindrive opener would be louder than my previous belt drive. This chaindrive is actually quieter than the other one. If you are looking for an inexpensive opener this is a great unit.

Install was like cake!
I just installed this today and it took me less than two hours , but I just changed the motor head. My rails and chain from my other old one was in good shape because I oil them twice a year and they run smoothly. After scanning the directions I was able to install this pretty quick , the center rail lined up perfectly and I also used my existing safety beam sensors. I wired everything up and installed the wall control and it worked immediately , I just had to tweak the buttons a little to get it to go down all the way. After I figured it out everything worked correctly , the only thing I have to do is sinc up the remotes , the directions are a little tricky to understand but I'm sure I'll have no problems. The last thing I'll mention as others have said is how ridiculously quiet this is , my old one was noisy and clanky. This one is smooth as butter and you can barely hear it. Hopefully this will last a long time , I don't know how long my old one was because it was the one that came with my house. It's been working for the 20 years we've lived here. I'm definitely happy I didn't have to replace everything , just the motor. I definitely lucked out on that , I wasn't sure if the existing parts would be compatible. Also the directions are pretty straight forward , which is a good thing because I usually just look at the diagrams and figure out the rest. Definitely pleased with the purchase and a plus is that you can put the lights on separately without the door having to be moved up and down. Which will come in handy in the winter if I'm using the snowblower at night , this will give me added light at night.... update 7/23/23 complete waste of money and not happy , bought this in August of 2022 and now it's dead. Stopped working in April , so basically lasted 8 months. After having continuess issues with needing to reset it to work , it finally just stopped working all together. I tried multiple times to reset it but no luck , basically I have a garage light that I paid over $150.00 for. I am so pissed off about this , my last one lasted well over 20yrs. I do not recommend wasting your money on this junk , reading the reviews it sounds like you're taking a gamble getting a good one or a dud. Now I have to spend another $150-$200 on one from Lowes and probably pay someone to install it because I had major neck surgery and can't lift my head up for long enough time to install another one.

Easy install, quiet chain, don’t forget sensors!
You might need an extra pair of hands to hang up unit, but overall assembly is pretty straight forward and easy. The only thing that is very sensitive and might keep unit from working are sensors. One little wire on lose side or sensors not lining up makes you want to pull your hair out why unit is not working. But if you take your time for the wiring of the sensors and make sure not to damage wires, they are on thin and flimsy side, your unit will work like a charm. Love the quietness of the chain, the lock, separate light function and in case of visitors the keypad outside. Not figured out how to program car remote with hand remote yet. Not sure if that is possible. Overall great unit for double garage door, more than enough power.

Quiet Reliable
The Genie Garage Door Opener is a quiet dependable opener. I like the features especially the door lock on the door pad. The product arrived on time and was relatively easy to install.

Good Product
It is super quiet and runs great. Time will tell. If it lasts as long as my 30 year old Craftsman then it's a great buy.
