4 Ports USB 2.0 HUB SD/SDHC Card Reader - Toaster - Silver

Toaster shaped USB hub will *****NOT***** work without external power even though product description on amazon and product box both state external power is not necessary unless using a lot of USB devices simultaneously. I was testing only having 1 USB connected at a time (tested both the included drive & 1 previously owned USB thumbdrive).Toaster has 2 LEDs, red and green. Red LED lights up with external power plugged in. No lights come on without external power. Without external power, I cannot access any USB thumbdrive(s) plugged in. Have tried connecting toaster to USB outlets on a 2014 macbook, imac, compaq laptop, and even a USB battery pack: nothing works without external power (neither LED lights up without external power). Cannot get the green LED to come on. That being said, when I use external power, the hub works fine. Note external power source is NOT included (grr).Included thumbdrive works fine (as a stand alone drive or with my *powered* toaster hub) but note that the 'bread' is a rubbery 'shell' material and mine wasn't glued or fastened to the metal USB electronics housing. Imagine my shock when the rubber part came off in my hand the second time I went to remove the USB drive from my computer (I'm never rough with my electronics).

Loose cable for connection and also really short. I've had several USB unplug issues with it too. Functions but could be better in that way
