Poorly designed, not recommended.
I purchased this for a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" tablet. I got it because my wife really likes the CaseCrown case I bought for her Kindle Fire HD last year. Like her case, this one is nicely constructed, and has a good feel to it, but there were several flaws that forced me to return it:1. The front of the case is slightly too large for the screen's bezel, and it actually covered a little bit of the viewing area - about 1/8" on the long side. When the tablet was repositioned, it corrected the problem, but it kept slipping back down, regardless of how carefully I used the Velcro flap to secure it. It the case had been cut correctly this would not have been an issue, and there is no discernible reason why that opening should not be a bit larger.2. When used as a stand, the tablet is somewhat precarious. On a perfectly flat, level surface, it is not an issue, but the moment you try to use the case as a stand on anything that is not perfectly level, the tablet has a tendency to fall over backwards! This happened on my coffee table, which is reasonably level, and there was NO chance of this working as a stand in bed. I had to prop it up on a pillow. With my new Roo Case, this is not an issue: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FF33N56/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=13. If you are the owner of a Kindle Fire HDX tablet, BE AWARE: The rear camera built into the tablet is designed to be used without a case or with the Amazon Origami Case. When you try to use the camera with another brand of case (like this one, or my new ROO Case) there is an overlay in the middle of the screen that tells you to slide the camera up to use it. There is no way to slide the camera up unless you have an Origami Case, and there is NO WAY TO TURN OFF THIS NOTIFICATION! I contacted amazon 3 times about this, and they could offer no useful suggestions, other than to wait for it to be corrected in a future software update. The camera CAN still be used, but it is difficult to do so when there is a large graphic right in the middle of the viewing screen!I have not heard good things about the Origami Cases, so I cannot recommend them... but this case is a poor substitute. I recommend the RooCase linked above, which costs about the same, looks similar and works better. It does not fix the camera issue, but it is also not $50+ like the Origami case!

great case, but camera issues
This is a great case. It does exactly what it claims to do. The only problem is when trying to use the video/camera, a drawing pops up in the middle of the screen telling me to slide it up, as if I have an origami case. It still takes the pic or video without showing the popup, but, it's hard to see what you're shooting. I used the mayday function to get help. He said they have no way to fix it because it's not an Amazon case and I would have to contact the manufacturer. I explained that it seemed to be a glitch with their camera app, but he said no one else has reported this issue. I'm not going to send it back because I really like the case and you can't beat the price! Guess I'll just have to take it out of the case when I want to shoot video.

Very Nice Case
was looking for a case that protected my new kindle fire HDX 8.9. i wanted something that would protect the outside corners and also hold it in the case. after looking at many cases i chose this one. very glad i did. once the kindle is slid into the case it is very snug and there is a velcro flap on the inside to help hold it in. also, the main reason i chose this case was it offers some protection on the corners. i take care very good care of my electronics and this was just something that i wanted on the case. it will turn on the kindle when you open the case and off when you close it. one extra nice feature is there is an elastic strap in the middle of the front cover to put your hand through to hold the kindle upright while you read. this is a very nice case at a great price and amazon shipped very quickly as usual. i do have a prime membership so that helps. i highly recommend this case and i hope this review helps in your choosing a case.

Great case if only the sleep/wake function would actually work as advertised.
UPDATE: this company took my review to heart and contacted me immediately offering to send me a new case that would better fit my needs. This new case fits my Kindle Fire hdx 8.9 perfectly and the sleep wake function works like a charm. I would happily deal with this company again and recommend their products because they stand behind what they sell.I agree that this is a nice case for the money. My biggest disappointment, and the reason I actually ordered this case, is the sleep/wake function. It is advertised as having sleep/wake, and I have seen in several reviews that it works for the other customers but it certainly does not work for me. This is the second case I have ordered for my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9. I hate to send yet another cover back but I just may have to. I really want the sleep/wake function. If you do not care about that then order this case.

Just Right
Considering the very reasonable price-tag, this corner-protecting case for my new Kindle HDX 8.9 is nearly perfect. Fits well, does everything it is supposed to do, looks understated and neat. If forced to find something negative, I would have to say it does, of course, offset one of the new Kindle's vaunted assets: the weight, or lack thereof. This does add to the weight of my Kindle, but not as much as you might think, and certainly not more than I can accept, given the added security to my device.A small complaint might also be that while standing the device horizontally is easily done, not so with vertically -- would be marginally better if that positioning, too, was somehow built in. I have a well-used Belkin stand for such, so this lack is not critical. All in all, it's a winner. I would enthusiastically recommend this case to anyone who wants some additional protection against damage to their eReader.

nice case
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this cover after reading reviews that it may not be the best cover. It did have a slight smell but I just let it sit for a day and the smell was gone. My kindle fits perfectly; everything lines up. I can use all plugs when in the case. The stand works good and the cases closes nicely. For the price this is a nice cover that I think does everything a $60 case does.
