Thanks to environmental pollutants Iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don't know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat and stupid. Iodized salt--supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency-- is actually a nutritional scam which provides a false sense of security. The Iodine Crisis explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions. Lynne Farrow reveals how she and thousands of other patient-activists changed their lives by researching and using iodine. Frequently Asked Questions cover everything you need to know about iodine. The proof of iodine's benefit is demonstrated by the dramatic case studies shared in this book. Review: We read about the necessity of getting Iodine and how the doctors have been misinformed. - The book is easy to read and I find it very good with its content of the many short telling’s from patients. In some of these messages we read about sensing problems during the first week on the Iodine, but how continuing in taking the Iodine because they knew that such could happen, and after this the sensing problems disappearing and excellent and sometimes very fast results was following. In the book we also are getting historical cases which proves that previously throughout during time the Iodine has been known for its importance, even though the human beings back then didn’t know what special they actual were getting by for example drinking some water or eating algae or fish from the ocean. During the first half of the book I many times was reading that the Iodine had been used for 15,000 years, and I was wandering why Lynne was using precisely this special number of years. But then on the side 118 I found the explanation, because there I read that in 1975, in Chile, a 15,000 year-old site containing a small village of huts was discovered. And there among other were found seaweed species containing Iodine, even though that actually the natives lived a place with enough of normal plant and animal food, while for getting the seaweed they had to walk 90 km to the seacoast. So they knew the importance. But as one of the cases where we really see how the Iodine is needed, we on the side 132 reads the story about Dr. G. Robert DeLong who in 1989 visited the Chinese province Xinjiang, and where the area since Marco Polo’s time had been regarded as inhabited by “village idiots”. For example there some of the five year-olds looked like toddlers, and some children were extremely mental retardation and besides could not walk or even sit. But we then read, and see a picture, about how they solved the problem by dripping Iodine into the canal, thereby giving Iodine to the peoples, without their knowing, because they by cultural and religious factors feared salt, and drinking “different” water. And we read that as results came for example that infant mortality dropped by half, average 5 year-old’s height increased by 4 inches, and the children IQ increased 16 points. But actually it’s rather strange to read about how the doctors while being educated, especially in USA, during 3 decades, was miss informed about the Iodine, after a failure of a book, written without any proofs, which we are told about, which was put in print in 1948. This is strange when we furthermore in the book read about how Iodine for example was used under the Civil War, or when Dr. David Marine in 1924, in Ohio, where 56 % were affected by Goiter, started a research which after 30 month proved that the Iodine was the cure. And after this how the soldier shirts collars actually with time turned over into being made smaller, or how South Carolina even on the license plates stated “S. C. THE IODINE STATE”. So how could this book from 1948 turn over to the totally opposite meaning about the Iodine? Or how could anybody trust the printings in the book? In Europe we learn about a Spanish person, who 400 year ago wrote that there had to be something special in the ocean water, because during his travelling around in Europe he only in the Eastern Europe met many persons suffering from Goiter (Struma). And he concluded that the reason had to be because they not in Eastern Europe were eating fish from the ocean, while their water came from the mountains. Eastern Europe has until not long ago been known for this, and how especially the woman always using cloth around their necks for hiding away the Goiter. In the book we read about the double problem which both results in our missing of the Iodine. The first one being that we now daily are getting less of the Iodine, among other caused by doctors miss knowledge, and second because we now daily are getting Bromide (and Chloride and Fluoride). And the Bromide, even though being a Halogen like Iodine, is a bad one which the cells try to rub the places from the Iodine, and Bromide is used in extremely many different things and we daily uses ore contacts. So therefore we much more needs into our bodies to get all the Iodine which the body would like, so that the Bromide do not brake the balance in the body, and thereby result in among other Cancer, Alzheimer, or Parkinson’s. Concerning Iodine in my house we only are having Iodine as Iodized salt, concerning which we among other in the book read that the Iodine disappear up in the air. I have during years tried to explain to my Thai wife about the important Iodine, and told about the difference between Iodized salt and ocean salt. That is where the good ocean salt, and salt from some mountains, including Iodine, can contain up to 32 minerals and trace minerals which don’t disappear in the air, but we only have found the Iodine as Iodized salt. So as I after reading the book then started speculating more about probably too little Iodine here in Thailand, which I have been mentioning during year, and then thinking about the figure of the Thailand country, looking much like Eastern Europe with the mountains up to us. So maybe thereby missing Iodine and probably resulting in especially the many cases of Breast Cancer here I Chiang Mai, which I now during 4 years have be fighting against doctors about. So I went to Google, and easily I there found cards showing results from UNICEF, telling that on some places in Thailand pregnant woman even are missing from 75 to 100 % Iodine. And beside a result which showed that of 73,000 students measured, it was found that 6.5 % having under 70 in IQ! Rather shocking information’s. But besides I during long time have wanted to find out what kind of Iodine there might exist in the pharmacies, and thereby in Thailand, as in the smaller local ones they have none. But after doctor’s failures on me, I can’t, as before I came to Thailand, by myself drive cars or motorcycles, so first yesterday I came to the biggest pharmacy in Chiang Mai, actual also the importer. But also there it showed up that not even did they have Iodized salt! The chief, who I many times during years have talked with in parallel cases, and shown some the wanted in actual books of my around 300 doctor and health books, told us to ask in hospitals; and probably the dentist hospitals had Iodine! So we went to the local hospital, and there it showed up that they only on a table had standing a single ½ pound bottle with Iodized salt! And the doctor didn’t know anything about Salt when I among other tried to explain to her how the Iodine disappears up into the air. So we left in vain, after having learned that in Thailand we only can get Iodine if we in supermarkets get it as Iodized salt! As the doctors, and actually also the pharmacies, which I out here now during 12 years have been talking with, nearly don’t know anything about pills, minerals, or drugs (about existing natural alternatives), I have chocked many of them when I have started talking about for example the K2 vitamin, or Linus Pauling taking 12 gram C vitamin a day, and so on. But beside that the doctors and pharmacies are missing knowledge, and interest in increasing health, the biggest problem actual is that the laws don’t allow private persons to from other countries buy simple thing like vitamins or minerals. Repeating, not even allowed to from another country to buy 100 grams of C vitamins! I discovered this when I 3 years ago by desertcart ordered Progesterone crème, and then got back a message telling that because of this law they could not sent it to me. The Progesterone then had not existed in Thailand during 13 years, as I had been told by the mentioned chief. And later I found out that in Thailand neither exist for example the Niacinamid (one of the B3), the Folic Acid (B9), or K2 and K3, (K1 only exist for use in hospitals), and much more, and as it now has turned out, neither the Iodine (Iodide). But as mentioned, the doctors and the pharmacies don’t know anything about different vitamins and minerals, while I personally, only by private interest, already was studying this before high school 50 years ago. And I have lend, bought, and copied books to doctors, during my work in getting the missing vitamins and mineral to Thailand. Personally I for example need the B9 vitamin as my Homocysteine according to Google, and Kilmer McCullys book, are much too high, but according the hospitals in Chiang Mai the measuring number is fine, as it is less than on their papers max allow, and as they tell, their hospitals are Internationals. Concerning the Iodine in Thailand I also I Google, from UNICEF, found that by law it was stated that from 2011 there in Thailand should be Iodized salt in the food. But actually I can’t see that this will help much in reality, as people eat home or in small restaurants, and we only find the Iodized salt in supermarkets, and all of the Thais whom I during years have been talking to don’t have any Idea about it. So to me Thailand is rather parallel to how it was in the place in China which we read about in the book. As the final words I can highly recommend the recently printed 96 side new book by Robert Thompson, MD.,: “What Doctors Fail to Tell You About IODINE & YOUR THYROIDE”. It might be the first easy to read book about Iodine, with its god information, interesting pictures, and 25 personal problem questions, by which to conclude if probably missing Iodine. Even though, as written, around 90 % have less Iodine than correct. Review: The Return of Iodine as Breast Cancer Prevention - The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow, A Book Review by Jeffrey Dach MD If you are a woman diagnosed fibrocystic breast disease or with breast cancer, you need to read this book. If you are a woman who undergoes repeated breast procedures such as breast cyst aspirations or repeated biopsies of breast nodules, then you need to read this book. If you are a breast cancer survivor, then you need to read this book. As an interventional radiologist for 30 years, my job was to read the mammograms and perform the procedures, the breast biopsies and needle aspirations. Some women had multiple cysts and nodules and returned to the department every year for repeat aspirations and biopsy procedures. After their procedure, these women would ask me, "Doctor, what can I do to make these cysts and nodules in my breast go away"? And for 30 years I would throw up my hands and say "We just don't know". After I retired from radiology and returned to clinical medicine in 2004, I attended medical meetings and there was David Brownstein MD and George Flechas MD addressing the doctor audience about the Iodine project and the health benefits of Iodine supplementation. Iodine is the answer to fibrocystic breast disease. Iodine is the answer for breast cancer prevention. Iodine is the answer I should have been giving to all the women over the years I worked in the hospital X-ray department, but didn't. So I am making up for it now. We routinely test for Iodine level, and give Iodine supplements to every woman in my clinic. Lynne Farrow is a gifted writer and her book chronicles in exquisite detail her personal story and discovery of Iodine, and her journey as an Iodine advocate. Her book describes how Iodine was used for decades as a natural medicine, and then virtually eliminated from mainstream medicine and our food in the 1960′s by bad research. You will find it difficult to put this book down. There is much more of the story to be told, so go ahead and get yourself a copy and read it over and over again. Share it with your friend, and go online to Lynne Farrow's BreastCancerChoices.org and the Iodine Group to spread the word and spark a new revolution in the use of Iodine. Late to the party, but I'm still a fan!
I've been reading all the reviews a year or so after this book was published. I bought it a year ago from breastcancerchoices.org, the web site that the author created and read it in two days! I'm quite "iodine literate" in that I've researched and used lugol's and iodoral over that past 7-8 years. I read some studies by Dr Flechas and Dr Abraham, and have read 3 editions of Dr Brownstein's book "Iodine, why we need it and can't live without it". This led me to learning the dangers of bromine and fluoride. i had my mercury fillings removed. I joined the Weston A Price Foundation www.westonaprice.org and listened to the proceedings of their annual conference, and read the quarterly journals. So, when I read Lynne's book, I just had to add my 2 cents. Yes, after all my own research, I still learned from this book. I especially enjoyed learning more about iodine history and insider info as to how the modern iodine pioneers like Flechas, Abraham, Brownstein, and the iodine yahoo groups got their start. I love the summary info in the appendices. For those who gave less than 5 stars, I have tried to understand your motives. Some may be fearful of iodine, some may be expecting a science book (if you need that see Dr Brownstein's book), and some may be plants for Big Pharma. For you big Pharma freaks - please stay away! For those of you who fear iodine, I understand. Allow me to tell my own story (not a study for you science guys), but my own experience. At first I used small quantities, worried that I would take too much and throw myself into a "thyroid storm". I was diagnosed with Graves Disease back in 2004 and read all the negative things about Iodine. I believed my doctor and my thyroid was removed expertly. Yes, the surgeon did a great job and didn't screw up my parathyroids. But, I wish he could have left more than 5% so I'd have a chance at a recovery now that I know about Iodine. Anyway, about 2007 I tried a beverage that had kelp in it and it gave me more energy but it was very expensive. So I tried lower does of Iodoral for a few years - 12.5mg. In 2010, I tested my bromine & fluorine levels to find I was very toxic - about 23-24 (should be less than 5), and deficient in iodine 79%. So, after carefully reviewing and following the iodine protocol I started taking 50mg/day and all the cofactors, celtic sea salt, etc... This past February I took the test again and now am detoxed from bromide, fluoride (2.3) but still low in iodine (39%). I am continuing 50mg until I get to zero and up to 100%. I had more energy, my breast stopped hurting, and I had only one case of flu per year. My need for my thyroid meds is stable. My myxedema has reduced especially in my arms and face. I have lost about 30 pounds though it's hard to do without a thyroid. Other important related nutrients: Vitamin B12 (Could it be B12?), Vitamin D3, and Vitamin K2.

Great information, poor writing style
I already take iodine, but I wanted to read more in depth about what it does and how it works. This is not that kind of book. If you are new to iodine supplementation and female, you may find this book a good place to start. It is readable and generally speaks about what an iodine deficiency does to women in particular (though a few men's anecdotal reports are included). Unfortunately, the writing style is very repetitive and haphazard, and the book is full of anecdotal reports that while encouraging, are mostly unnecessary and don't really tell the full story of the hows and whats of iodine. I found this to be pretty annoying. These elements ultimately detract from and dilute the primary message that iodine could save your life. While the author should be commended for her work, dedication, and truly humanitarian lifesaving efforts regarding iodine, this book leaves a lot to be desired from an informational and creative writing perspective.

Easy read - Vital information
Who knew that iodine was so important?! Every cell in our body needs iodine. It used to be in most of our food but......it was removed and replaced with bromine which is TOXIC. I'm beginning to see a frighting trend in our food supply. As if that wasn't bad enough, removal of the bromine from our body is not so simple. The protocols in this book (along with DOZENS of patient sucessful testimonies) means it can be reversed but carefully. According to the research in this book, adding iodine back into the body fixes SO MANY health concerns from headaches to cancer. Unseating the bromine from the iodine receptors should be done under a "doctor's" care but give that doctor this book first so they understand what your goal is and assist with monitoring your body. The side effects can be......challenging depending on your current iodine saturation levels. This book is a must read for those on the holistic path. Good luck! It appears we all need it.

Better than I could've imagined
This book was my first foray into learning about iodine. I didn't love the authors style overall, but the information is gold. I began slowly ramping up my intake over 6 weeks until i got to the point of taking "large doses" of Lugols 2% solution daily. I experienced several benefits. The biggest and best: My horrendous spring allergies dropped off to almost nothing. I live in an area where I have always had to take 2-3 allergy medications just to venture outside in April and May. Even then, I referred to May as "Hell Month" because the misery was so intense. Last spring, I took ONE allergy medication for two days total. TWO DAYS of the whole season! I've never been able to do that. The only thing that I changed was adding Lugols to my routine. I'm sold on the benefits of iodine and tell many of my friends about this book and Dr. Brownstein's website.

Educational but intriguing; great for fatigue and brain-fog
I listened to this audiobook in one day. It's a little over 6 hours but the information and how it is presented made listening to it enjoyable and comfortable, so I didn't realize how much time had passed. I am always delighted to learn new things, especially topics that I thought were limited or irrelevant, but iodine has a lot to say! The author skillfully, and with a sense of humor, takes the reader on a serious, deep dive into the history of iodine and how it erroneously got a bad reputation of being dangerous in certain amounts. It's not surprising how incompetent people in the science field screw things up for everyone for generations. Iodine treatment does not follow a one-size-fits-all, because we're all unique with unique issues and needs. If you only get through half of this book (audiobook), you will be more informed and have an intelligent grasp on the benefits of iodine. I highly recommend this book.

Life changing
I think your this book just saved my life! For sure my quality of life! 4 years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and since then I have never felt like myself no matter what I tried and I have tried everything! I was on 25 mg of iodine for the last 2 years which is high by conventional standards so it never occurred to me to raise it, but after I heard Lynne on a podcast where the host said that he was on 50 mg of iodine it occurred to me that I could try to raise mine just to see if it would help. I got this book and read it just to reassure myself. I immediately started taking 50mg. Expecting side effects I couldn’t believe it when instead I felt like someone had turned the lights back on! For 4 years I have been struggling with not feeling like myself, never really feeling motivated to do anything, always forcing myself to do the normal things of life, and really worrying about aging because I already felt old and I couldn’t imagine if it got worse! Today I feel like myself again! I can’t believe it! I’m so excited! I just had to thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! And by the way no side effects at all! I have always taken lots of magnesium, sea salt, and selenium so perhaps that is why it was so easy. Also, it appears to have regulated my appetite! Even though I have been on ketogenic diet for over a year-and-a-half I never got the energy or appetite regulation that people described. Since I've been on iodine after I finish eating I am full and done eating. I don't want anything else and I don't crave sweets! It is life-changing! I am so grateful, thanks again!
