Art Of Red Sonja (ART OF RED SONJA HC)

This book was worth the price. I actually read it and found the text informative regarding the Red Sonja character. About a third of the illustrations in the book are what I would call good to excellent. More than half just are not very good. The comics industry does this all the time, they create a following for a book by assigning a rock star illustrator for 6 months or so and then hope that the readers will continue to buy the title because of the storyline after they put in a lesser art team. It is particularily offensive when a book like this comes out with a dozen or 2 good to excellent illustrations and the rest is filler.

As a fan of sword and sorcery art, as well as a Sonja fan, I snapped this up as soon as I saw it. A great book, all around. Full color throughout, and consisting predominantly of full page images, so you can appreciate the detail. A few half pages, a sprinkling of three-to-a-page, but even the small ones are printed with precise care. In addition to all the fabulous art, it starts off with an eight page essay on the history and creation of everyone's favorite She-Devil with a Sword! I highly recommend this!

This is a great collection of art from Red Sonja. There is very little about the history of the character, but I actually liked the fact that the vast majority of the pages were full of art. This is an art book, not a history or character analysis. Just a beautiful book full of art.

there is no plot this is a fantastic tome with marvelous artwork by various vary talented individuals i quite enjoy perusing through the pages for inspiration and just plain facination

It's okay, but not what I had hoped. Seems a bit light in content considering the Red Sonja history. A more drawn out history, artist profiles, or more drawings would have kicked this up a star or two.

The only improvement would be to increase all the illustrations to full page, and include more works by other artists. A Red Sonja art omnibus would be a welcome sequel.

Lots of enjoyable color art. I appreciate the ideals behind this work.

The Art of Red Sonja is simply a must for any fans of the She-devil. It is a beautiful book with some great art which includes all the variant covers from the first half decade of Red Sonja.However Dynamite has come a LONG way with their Art books since this volume. If you owned Art of Red Sonja Volume 2 first as I did then this MAY be a step down in quality for you. The images to NOT fill the page, there is a inch border around the art per page with a map of Hyborea, (I would add images to show an example however I do not think they would get thru) Not a major issue however when they place more than one image on the page it is a lot of dead space on the page.In saying that I have become a pretty huge Sonja fan and thought I had missed my chance to add this book to my collection, so thank you to Amazon for finding some in the back of your warehouse and to receive it from the states in only 4 days, even with normal shipping? A HUGE thank you, indeed!Even with the dead space on the page this art book is still worth it if you are a fan of Red Sonja.

I really liked this book! Some reviewers complained about the selection but all my favourites were on full page and I agreed with about 90% (I would have done 10% differently but everyone has different taste). I really liked the format & art.
