One Love
I use this product for my class oh, I love this book because it really explains what Martin Luther King stood for without too much negativity, too many big words and without racism. It was truly difficult for me to find a book that focused on love of all Races am making a difference for the betterment of all of us. I truly enjoy that graphics and the meaning of this book as well as the simplicity. Thank you so much this is an amazing book!

Awesome
My 7 year old daughter loved reading and this was the perfect book for her. She sat right down and read it straight through. Looking for more books now.

Disappointing
I was excited to have a book that wasn't too text heavy to introduce my students to Dr. King, but I was disappointed as soon as I opened the package. As someone else mentioned... all of the people are roughly the same color in this book. On pages where the illustrations are meant to discuss the issue of segregation, it was really confusing to see two groups of racially ambiguous people with the same skin tone. Besides the fact that this is confusing for my young students, what message does it send to not see a broader spectrum of Black people's skin tones in a book where I'm teaching my students about everyone deserving equal rights? Not only were many of the supporting characters white-washed, Dr. King himself is portrayed as being quite light-skinned. Using historical photos and interviews as context, this isn't an accurate representation, and is offensive as it erases people with darker skin tones. I'm truly disappointed and have no intention of using this book when there are other more meaningful and historically accurate resources available.

Excelling Book for Introducing Civil Rights to Young Students
This was a great book for reviewing Martin Luther King Junior with my lower-level students. The illustrations and story were very engaging, yet easy to understand. It is sometimes hard to explain the concept of civil rights to young students and this book does a wonderful job of achieving that goal!

I was impressed with the illustrations that made it easy for the children to connect with the written page
I purchased two books for two second graders. They were excited to receive the book because they had been discussing Dr. King during Black History Month. I was impressed with the illustrations that made it easy for the children to connect with the written page.

This is a very basic text for young readers but it does not use any historical vocabulary or terminology to accompany the text. So we will discuss the vocabulary and use the text to have some colorful visuals.

Nice Story
I use this book for a school counseling lesson. This book was easy for children to understand. It was a nice story to teach them about MLK Jr and why they get the day off from school.

Brilliant
Bought this book to read to my little boy whose the beautiful result of a mixed race relationship. I want him to know about black history. It is a great little book with a lovely message.

I like it but......
It's written a bit bluntly for a 5 year old child of mixed parentage, when it arrived I read it and decided I would leave it for a year but when my daughter saw it she insisted I read it. I felt that by using a very gentle soothing voice the stark realities of our history was more palatable but still think 5 is too young. Well illustrated.
