An entertaining slow burn story
Let me start by saying that this is a slow burn story, if you don’t like them, then don't read this story. Personally, I’m a big fan of them so I enjoyed it.‘Baby maker’ is the first story in the ‘It takes two’ series and is the story of Dane Wylder, a retired football player and Stella Donovan, a successful career woman. After years of hard work, both have achieved their life goals (career wise anyway) and they are now looking for something more. Or rather someone small to love and care for. Any other person would look for a partner first but not Stella and Dane. Both saw up close how painful love could be. Not only the pain of an absent parent but also the pain of an absent and unfaithful partner. The experience in their childhood made them both cynical and suspicious of love. So they decide, separately from each other, to just have a child on their own. After some searching on the best way to do it, they meet through a mutual friend. Their first meeting isn’t a success but if there is one character trait that Dane possesses a lot of, it’s stubbornness and in his own unique way Dane convinces Stella that she needs him as her child’s father. Everything is going according to plan, Stella gets pregnant and both are very excited about it. But the one thing that wasn’t on Stella’s list or in their rules were their emotions and slowly both are growing feelings for the other. Can they overcome their fear for love? Yes or no? Will they stick to the rules or follow their hearts? When I started the story, I wasn’t sure how to feel about Dane’s character. He came over as a self-centered, immature and arrogant guy. I wasn’t convince that he would be a good father. So I was glad that Stella felt the same way. She really made Dane work for convincing her that he was what she was searching for and that made me enjoyed the story much more. Dane really gave it his all , he used charm, jokes, surprise visits, everything he could think of he used to get his way. To be honest, Stella didn't have a chance. But I liked it that she did try.Another thing that I really loved about this story was that both characters really grew during the story. Stella started as a hardworking woman, very focused on her work, very organized and obsessed with lists and rules. But then under influence of Dane, she became more sensitive for the feelings of others, more impulsive and more relaxed. And Dane went from an impulsive, easygoing guy to a more serious and responsible person. He really showed me and Stella that there was more to him then on first glance. They really brought out the best in each other. You could feel the bond between them growing during the story and I loved every minute of it. I liked their banter and the fact that they were honest with each other. The fact that we got both POV's helped to understand them better and gave a deeper insight into their character and thought process. Like I said in the beginning, this is a slow burn story. There were a few sex scenes but more at the end of the story. The secondary characters in this story were entertaining. You had Stella's family and friends and Dane's family and friends. Each of them had their own personality.I really liked it that the writer also give us a glimpse of their future. It was funny.‘Baby maker’ was a great story. It was entertaining and light. If you have read and enjoyed the ‘Hard to love’ series of this writer (like I did) than you have to try this story too. This story had a bit of the same vibe.

Terrifically charming and sweet, slow burn fun
4.5 starsBaby maker is third book in this series, there are recurring characters here but essentially I feel it can stand alone. I was eager to see if the same slow burn quality I loved is still here. Spoiler alert... it is. Stella and Dane made me laugh not like crazy like Amber but still humorous, their POVS are so opposite on paper yet funny interactions. Not to parrot the blurb but it basically sums it what the story is about. While this trope seems popular lately I wondered how the author would play it. Stella and Dane are mutual friends with Ethan and how this whole process started. Two anti commitment people but want a baby for their own reasons. I couldn't take Dane seriously at first I'll be honest he reminded me of Gronk in some ways goofball, lighthearted, joker endearing, also he's actually smarter and more than he projects. Stella is serious, hardworking and guarded. The road to the baby itself makes this funny, sweet and quite entertaining I might add. A spark that turned into a flame, opposites and unlikely pair that fit with a slow burn deliciousness.Stella's prickly walls only spur Dane more. His persuasive charm and big heart coming in handy even more. Actually they are mirror images when comes to relationships after their pasts it'll factor in the long run. Even in the start the tension is there maybe uneasy at first then slowly changing. I liked both of main characters, Stella is actually relatable when you get past the initial. Dane wins you over as you get to know more of him and can't help love him more.Overall I enjoyed this one a lot the way the story progressed. It was more than I expected with the trope. The writing grabbed me right away and so easy. I felt slow relationship development part and from amiable to comfortable co-parents and rightfully together. They had bumps along the way but it was worth it in the end with the heartwarming, tender and genuine feelings. Oh and this book was better with the secondary characters Delia, Noah and Levi, with hint hint of a untold story there.

what I liked
The story kept my interest, which is not always easy to do as I read way too many romance books. I liked that the hero was jealous and possessive. When he let his jealousy show I loved it. While I could have done without all of the OW drama due to the hero's player past, I liked too that the hero gave up his manhoe ways when he met the heroine. No sex with OW after meeting her. Of course, she is the stereotypical romance heroine had not had sex for a long time and what she had wasn't great. At least however she was not a virgin at age 33.Unfortunately I didn't really like the heroine. She annoyed me. She was too prissy, too ridged and had a stick up her butt. I could never live with her. She would drive me crazy.I could get past those things and would have given it a 5 star rating but didn't because of the blah sex scenes. There was no physical stuff until at least the last half of the book. I could have handled that but it really irritated me was the fact that I felt played with. There were those typical we are busy and going to do it but then something happens. These something happens included phones ringing, someone interrupting, and at least 2 emergencies. When they finally consummate their relationship not only is the story almost over but it is a dud. All telling and no showing. It is lacking in hotness and that really disappointed me. I want hot sexy times in my romance novels and despite indications to the contrary this story didn't deliver.

Love this author
I have almost every book this author has written. This one is another great one. I devoured it like I always do. She feels like a kindred spirit. I wonder why more people haven’t discovered the quirky world of P Dangelico. I’m certainly glad I have!

I kinda loved it
I love a story of opposites attract and this was a great one. There isn't much to say except that this has a solid plot and likeable characters.

OK
I was fooled by the great reviews for this book.It started well but then Dane, the sexually incontinent bad boy, turned out to be a saint and Stella, the astute business woman, turned out to be an immature idiot.
