National Treasures, Chia & Washington Combine
Update: I took off a star because after weeks of owning this, it really is a pet. You are constantly pouring water out of the tray and topping it off with water so it can leak out again. Apparently that’s how it works and for all my effort, less than 50% of the chia seeds even sprouted. Poor George looks like he has the mange.I grew up watching these commercials on TV, I can’t believe I’ve never had one. George Washington, come on, he’s a slam dunk. This is definitely a great gift however I purchased it as a gift to myself. He kind of looks like an old lady from certain angles, but it’s still close enough. It is kind of hard to get the seeds down the ponytail on his back, but I guess that’s not a big deal. Mine hasn’t sprouted yet but I’d like to think old George would be impressed that his old lady likeness is being used in this patriotic way, it makes me chuckle. Supposedly he said, “Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism” but I think he probably also would have said, “I’m a Founding Father, sure, but you really know you’ve made it when your likeness becomes a chia pet. God bless America!”

Really fun gift
Came with a ton of chia seeds, really easy to put the seeds on the head, grew really long in 2 weeks, looks fun sitting in the window, be careful with how long the plants stay on the head because they will grow mold after a month so you’ll need to harvest the seeds, also you can eat them and they’re great in salads

Techniques to grow grass hair.
I find chia pets difficult to grow. There appear to be spots on Donald's head that are resistant to growth. Now I've gone to some length to get optimum growth. I purchased an AeroGarden Light (Amazon) which is left on for 16 hours and off for 8 hours. Most of the seeds, after five days, have germinated and are growing. The crown of Donald's head is being very stubborn about growth. They are only now sprouting a root.. I've been very diligent about keeping donalds head moist. The design fault is around the hole. There is no gravity feed to 'push' the water up to the crown. If Donald's head is kept full of water then there is some gravity pressure forcing the water through the clay allowing the sides and back to grow easily. So I have done the following:1. Arttifical Grow light kept on 16 hours per day2. Fill/top off the water 10 times per day (whenever I see it is low)3. Spray the head with a water bottle whenever I can at least 10 times per day.I'm wondering if there aren't some nutrients in the clay required for growth. The seeds would get the nutrients through the water that permeates the head from, I assume, gravity and capillary action. I'm also wondering if I shouldn't fill the spray bottle with the water in the catch tray to capture any needed nutrients and spray it back on. I gave it three stars because it shouldn't require this much effort to effectively grow a full head of hair.I've tried growing Donald using the directions, and frankly, there were patches of no growth everywhere. With the techniques and equipment I am using I am getting a full head of hair with the exception of the area around the water hole.Suggestions ?

POTUS Chia
I don't recall planting a Chia, and if I did, it has been years, but I wanted one to try one of Donald. I gave this 4 stars b/c of the price and the difficulty of keeping the seed mixture on his head in the grooves.I mixed the seed and water as thick as I could so it would stay in place better. It was still hard to keep it in the grooves of his head, no matter how I turned it or layed it. I finally got some of it to stick and filled it up as instructed. You have to fill it every day as the terra cotta holder just sucks it up. They suggest misting it also so it grows faster, which I do.It really jumped up when I sat in in the window of my kitchen. Mine also has a slight defect. When they stamped "Donald Trump" on the front of the pot base, it was crooked and the first couple letters were faded. It wasn't bad enough for me to send it back. He is sprouting now and he looks like he has a few bald spots, but maybe more sprouts will cover that up soon! All and all, cute project for older kids and adults.

hard to maintain
The product is the same as the picture but the water inside evaporate fast so I have to fill it up multiple times a day but since I work, the side of his head always have water compared to the top of his head which made the plant grow longer and faster on the side than on the top. It makes him look a little more bald than he already is. But other than that it was pretty fun and worth it

Water everywhere
Looks cool, but this thing leaks like crazy. It’s constantly sitting in over an inch of water in a bowl. I’m no Chia Pet expert, but I’m pretty sure the water is supposed to stay inside the clay object to be useful? Haha

A perfect chia pet
Product came in good packaging, and works as intended. Purchased for my brother first Christmas, but he doesn't understand how to grow life, so this Obama will forever be bald and covered in slimy, on growing seeds
