A Cool Book on Collage
Recently, I visited our public library and picked up about eight books to review on the subject of collage. I'm a newbie to this form of art and was looking for some basic knowledge and techniques to help me and a friend get started. We didn't have alot of time to find the perfect book, and this hands-on review of many books seemed like the best way to select one for purchase. "New Creative Collage Techniques" was published in 2011, is a spiral bound hardcover book which allows me to open it flat which is especially helpful to me. It contains 60 projects by 60 artists, each well illustrated with well written instructions. For me, it was the best choice. I bought it used....in almost perfect shape.....for an incredible price. Thank you Amazon!!

This book is a great resource
It is full of ideas and techniques to use paper, color, and texture to achieve different kinds of tactile aspects and dimensions that give collage a new, more modern feel and a more arresting and interesting look. Collage has changed a lot over the years and this book will furnish you with ways to make your old collage a thing of the past!

Nita Leland has written an excellent book teaching the many facets of collage
Nita Leland has written an excellent book teaching the many facets of collage, for the new beginner, to those working on professional presentation of their art work. She provides an easy to understand, illustrated glossary of Collage terms on page 10, and on page 147 presents, shooting and showing your collage - photographing collage, galleries and exhibitions, and copyright concerns. In this 160 page hard-backed spiral bound book, she presents 60 will illustrated "how to" projects, with tips for beginner and advanced alike. At times giving step by step photographs and collage work to illustrate the text. My city library carries three copies of the book. It's a sound, well written and organized book. Mine copy is a used, ex-library book, purchased for $16.45; it needed a strip of clear packing tape along the hardback spine, a quick fix that has lasted a year of class room use, and it looks like new.If interest of my students weights-in, I'd say this is the favorite collage book of all those I've introduced. Many who have continued working on their study of collage have purchased this book for themselves.Enjoy,DYC

Great information and presentation
This book by Nita Leland covers so many facets of collage making, it's really excellent, fun, inspirational and a joy just to leaf through. I've been making collages for years and taken a few very good workshops, but I still have unexpected problems sometimes with the process, and this book addresses process, trouble shooting, materials, and lots of fun project ideas that would work for journaling, fine art, and hobbyists. Highly recommended, both for beginners and veterans.

Great book when you learn to enlarge pictures in Fire
I am a long time fan of Nita Leland. The text of the book doesn't disappoint. I have read a lot about collage and yet still find new and useful tips in her book.I previously wrote that I was disappointed in the pictures. I have to apologize - I had somehow locked the position of the Fire so that it did not rotate and this had the result of NOT allowing you to enlarge the pictures. Once I unlocked it, I was able to double tap on any picture and have the screen fill up.You need to look at the small picture and rotate to the widest measure before enlarging. If the picture is landscape and you are holding the Fire in portrait, it will not enlarge properly and rotating afterwards will not change the enlargement.I am sure this is somewhere in the manual, but I did not see it there.

An Acrylic Product Handbook
I was surprised that this volume was not published by Liquitex or Golden or any other acrylic product company. If you object to the environmental impact of acrylics, this IS NOT for you: the author seems to only use acrylic whatever with often unnecessary applications like covering all paper surfaces with gel medium before you use them. To me, only my opinion, many of the examples of finished art were not attractive, some actually hideous, some boring, many with muddy color, etc. Only one was actually memorable, Cody F. Millers "Sarah and the Promise" which was balanced, striking, pleasing and interesting visually. If you are a newcomer to collage, i could see that this book would benefit you, as there are many techniques explained. However invest in other books, too, many specific to each individual product like "The Encyclopedia of Polymer Clay Tecniques" by Sue Heaser which is a good, basic book about using polymer clay. Sculpting with clay, polymer or otherwise, can add wonderful depth, texture, etc to any mixed media piece, just glue those flat backed sculptures on that board! Soooooo, back to Nita Lelands book- for myself, an artist of many years, i would have preferred more non acrylic methodology. I love "Yes" paste and plain old inexpensive white glue. Anyway, not a bad book, just way better for those unfamilar with acrylic paint, varnishes, gels, etc.

Great collage book
I teach Mixed Media and Collage at Arizona Art Supply in Tucson, AZ. I am always looking for materials to help my students and myself This is one of the best books I have found in quite a while. Not only are the examples and demos terrific, but the book is designed to be used. Because of the spiral binding, it lays flat when opened to a page. I have recommended this book to many of my artist friends as well as to my students.

Great Resource
I enjoy how this book starts as a DIY for beginners and takes the reader tight through to archival methods for fine art pieces.
