Works well but NOT for key chain carry
I don't like giving this product only three stars because it works. I was able to light a vaseline saturated cotton ball on 3 or 4 strikes and the compass will get you in the right quadrant if you work at it a bit; consider it an emergency back up tool. Looking at its picture you can guess what the primary failure mode will be. If you guessed that cheesy wire key chain hanger you would be right. I carried it on my key chain for about 2 months, then one day it wasn't there. Fortunately, I found it. Put one in your car's glove compartment or in your emergency kit, just not on your key chain.

they were smart with this
Talk about a big product in a little package. This thing is no longer than a pen but... can connect to your keys... but you have everything you need for an emergency. Unless you are the flash, I don't think rubbing 2 sticks together is going to be all that successful at making a fire....but with this, you're guaranteed a fire.This little product comes with:*Striker for the flint....every time we tried it we had a successful large spark*Magnesium aka flint..... they were smart with this...not only is the rod long, but it is attached to the barrel so you have something to hold onto and you can also bury the flint into your starter pile.*Cotton ball to assist with an easy start...I've noticed some others stating how there is only enough cotton for one use...I agree...BUT... this is also an emergency tool.... if you have to use the cotton in an emergency, you have it on you...it's easily refilled.*Compass on the end....it is small...but if you needed to know which way was North... this would give you an idea...other than that, I don't know how useful it would be?*Size and weight is insignificant.. it wouldn't be in your way on your keys / bag / glove box... anywhere.*One last note...it comes in a very nice gift box with their logo on it. You can literally gift this as is....anyone would love this as a gift.I did receive this at a discounted price to test and try and to give an unbiased review, which I enjoy doing.
