Unpopular opinion
Itâs never fun to be in the minority and I really hate saying negative things about someoneâs hard work; however, as a parent, I appreciate reviews good and bad as they help me get a better picture of the book. It should also go without saying that not every book works for every person!I wanted to check this book out to see if it would be a good book suggestion for one of my children. I had heard great things about it and itâs been nominated for some awards, so maybe my expectations going in were too high, but this didnât work for me and I didnât even finish the book. I was pretty much bored out of my mind from the beginning. Every now and then Iâd get a glimmer of hope that things were picking up, but it never stuck. Generally speaking, I always stick with it in hopes that itâll get better and perhaps have a redeeming ending, but after over 200 pages, I just couldnât slog thru anymore. This story is centered around a girl (Coyote) and her dad (Rodeo) who basically are running away from the death of her mom and two sisters, instead of dealing with their grief. In a school bus. And picking up strangers along the way. The strangers all have their own issues, of course. I felt that some of the topics in this are not appropriate for âmiddle grades.â Teens? Sure. But not 8-12yr olds. One of the issues is physical abuse. Another worth mentioning regardless of where you stand on the issue, is a female character who is gay. She is kicked out of her home and she talks about having a crush on another girl. These are important topics and maybe youâd be fine reading this with your child so you can discuss them. But this is not a book Iâd be comfortable having my child read on their own. Grief needs to be addressed and the idea of inviting countless strangers into your car/home (it was their home in this story) is not something to be championed in a childâs book. I understand kindness and friendship are overarching themes, but there are better and more appropriate ways to accomplish this.

Disappointed
My ten year old son did not think this book was appropriate. There is cussing within the story along with other teen/adult issues. Yes, we are a conservative family and monitor what our children watch. I didnât realize I would have to monitor the books being checked out from an elementary library. Wish kids could be kids, and not pushed to think and act older than they are. Probably would be a good book for 13+.

Holy moly!
If I could rate this book a trillion stars, I would. Holy moly this was amazing.I have been reading some good middle-grade for Middle-Grade March, and this was my next to last. Honestly, I hate that I waited all month to read it, but also happy I went out with a BANG because this book was everything I had been waiting for in a book. EVERYTHING!Ok, so here's what it's about:After the death of her two sisters and mother, Coyote and her dad, Rodeo abandoned their real names and their life in WA for a life on the road aboard a refitted school bus. When Coyote discovers that her childhood park is going to be torn up, and the memory box she buried with her sisters and mother lost forever, she embarks on a journey home from somewhere in Florida. Along the way, they pick up some travelers: Lester, who is going to see his girlfriend in Idaho, Salvador and his mom who are trying to get to the midwest for a new life, and Val, who is heading toward Seattle after being kicked out of her home for being gay. Along with a cat named Ivan and eventually, a goat named Gladys, they all find themselves caught up in Coyote's mission to come face to face with her tragic past.First off, Coyote's voice is just amazing. She is confident and sassy and caring and everything I love in a protagonist. Her dad, Rodeo is equally as amazing which made this duo one I would follow to the ends of the world. The cast of colorful characters they meet add so much to the story that I could not put the book down. I had to know what was going to happen lest I fall over and die from agony. Normally, I am not very vocal when I am reading, but I found myself uttering a few ohs and ahs as I was reading and even grabbed myself some tissues.Because I was peeling onions, of course. GeezSo, after I finished this book, I went on ahead and bought the entire library of Dan's. I might go on ahead and say that this was the nest book I have read in 2019.Buy it. Borrow it. Whatever you have to do. If you want a quirky, heartbreaking, yet happy middle-grade, this is the one.

Best Middle Grade Novel 2019
While watermelon slushees always disappoint, this book certainly does not! The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart is a beatifully written middle grade novel which follows the journey of a girl named Coyote and her Dad, Rodeo, as they travel across the country on a school bus. What Rodeo doesnât know is that Coyote is on a mission to save something important from her past, and she is determined to reach her destination before it is too late. But what if what she is running toward is exactly what Rodeo has been running away from for the last 5 years? With the help of the new friends who they meet along the road, Coyote and Rodeo find the strength to face their past and their memories. I love this book so much I keep ordering more and more copies to lend out to friends. As a teacher, I read a lot of middle grade novels and this is definitely my pick for best middle grade novel of 2019. Coyoteâs voice is so authentic; I was drawn in from the very first chapter and could not put it down. Through laughter, and through tears, I felt like I was on this journey with Coyote and I was not getting off that bus! Trust me, this is a road trip you need to take. Read The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing book on love, friendship and family.
It's a very very very very nice book, to be precise. Most children n adults don't even know in today's date what 'love' actually means. They just think it of the stuff they see in movies, which is not true. This book shows us what love really means, what family really means, what a good friend can do and many more things including a definition of 'magical feeling', which rang true to me. đThe protagonist, Coyote and her thoughts connect straight to heart. I once told this story to one of my friends and she was so happy to listen that she told me that she's really gonna spread this message of real meaning of love to all she knew. The way in which Coyote makes friends or judges people on the basis of their favourite book is really cool. This thing reflects the nature of the author too.Overall, a must recommended book for children as well as the adults.

Wonderful!
A beautiful, empathic, funny, sad and entertaining book. The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise takes you by the hand and leads you through a very crazy, sometimes slapsticky, journey. I read it with joy and sometimes a tear in my eyes. Recommended for children, teenagers and adults. You will love it. It's a road movie in letters.

Loved this book
I read this with my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son and we all loved it. The writer's voice is beautiful and thoughtful without making the voice of a child narrator into a cliché. We laughed and cried ...
