Use the Popcorn button on your Microwave for perfect popping
Well, I too wanted this popcorn popper to work. Since I am trying to eat healthier these days and didn’t like the chemicals I saw listed in the bagged popcorn I had been eating. This looked like the right popper, at the right price, for a healthier alternative to popping the popcorn I love.Well when it arrived very quickly (thanks, Amazon Prime) I was excited to try it out. Followed the instructions as included and I ended up with burnt popcorn. So I thought, here I am – the Small Appliance Queen who has another popcorn popper that doesn’t work. Yes, I own a Presto Air Popper, West Bend Stir Crazy, a plastic microwave popper (purchased before we became informed about the issues with PBA), and a stovetop popper. None of these lets me pop corn in a quick healthy manner using no oil or butter. So I cleaned the Catamount popper out and tried about 10 other methods from trying to use moistened popcorn to standing in front of the microwave and watching it like a “hawk trying to catch a mouse” so I could turn off the microwave off at the precise moment and keep it from burning again. No success! Either it was burned or only half popped. So I went back and read some of the Amazon reviews thinking maybe I was missing something and found out I had.So I placed enough popcorn in the Catamount popper to cover the bottom (just one layer thick – not too much popcorn) and used my Whirlpool 1.6 Cu Ft 1200 watts countertop microwave’s Popcorn button. And the popcorn came out perfect, without being burnt, and just a few un-popped kernels in the bottom of the popper. Yes, the popped corn is a tiny bit moist due to the steam and this is great because when I dump it into my popcorn bowl and put a little sea salt on it, the moisture helps the salt to stick to the corn. So the key all this time has been to use the POPCORN Button on my microwave and if you have a setting for mini, small, etc. bags don’t use that, use the Regular setting and try it. I just finished popping another batch and yum, yum it is great. Also when the microwave stops, remove (carefully) the popper and pour your popcorn into another bowl. If you let it sit in the microwave it can burn.Remember to use the Regular Popcorn button and remove immediately after the Popcorn cycle has finished. I hope this tip works for you.

I love this thing.
Whomever said this was difficult to use, well... I'm not sure how you're using it. Easy as pie! Just pour ONE layer of kernels into the pot, pop for 3 - 4 minutes and then take out and toss with a little oil and spices. Yum! I like being able to use cheap kernels without popping them on the stove and I can make "gourmet" popcorn using my own combinations of spices and toppings. I don't recommend using the butter melting option just because it doesn't distribute very evenly. I keep the lid on while cooking so no kernels pop out of the bowl, and if I want butter I melt it in the actual container after dumping the popcorn in a bowl and then drizzling on top. This DOES get hot, however it's glass so that's to be expected. I was also very impressed that it's made of food grade lab glass which means it's definitely safe (I'm so used to having to be skeptical about the products I'm using). This is a 5/5 for me!

A great idea; some design flaws
I previously had a plastic popcorn popper; this one is an improvement, but still has some drawbacks.I love the idea that I can make popcorn easily in the microwave without the expense and carcinogenic chemicals of the prepackaged microwave popcorn bags.I like that this has no small pieces to break off (as the plastic model I had previously did) and you can control the amount of butter you use.I dislike that there is no handle. This makes it quite difficult to get the popcorn out without burning yourself (okay, maybe I need to be more patient and wait for it to cool down). Also, you have to watch this very carefully to ensure that the popcorn does not burn. I have a new microwave and I haven't get figured out the right amount of time, resulting in several burned batches.

The UNICORN of mini popcorn makers!
I've spent years searching for this mini microwave popcorn perfection!!!I have the WMC20005YB Whirlpool 0.5 cubic / 750W microwave and every other glass popcorn maker I've found, purchased & returned, could never fit the inner height requirement of 5 3/4" max from glass plate to ceiling. Until this little gem!Happily popping three months and although making a no-oil batch is a healthier option, it has yielded more kernels than I'd like - usually low power at 90 seconds gets half popped but then I'll repop the rest. Using 2 teaspoons of margarine (earth balance) at 2:45 on full power setting has consistently given 95%+ results. Handwash and all set. I bought the lovely Green version.

Great popcorn maker
I purchased the Catamount Glassware popcorn popper for work. I love popcorn and was tired of the microwave, chemical, artificial butter kind being my only option in the office. This popper makes the perfect amount for an afternoon snack and doesn't leave my fingers and mouth greasy. The only drawback is that steam tends to make some of the popcorn a bit mushy. Usually only one or two pieces, so not a total deal breaker, but still I wish I could find a way to make the popcorn without the steam buildup.

Good Microwave Popper made from durable glass
The little one is great for at work. Most offices have a rule against microwave popcorn, but mine doesn't (yet). I have some old jolly time yellow popcorn that still pops very well in this little guy. Popping in an oily pan still works the best, but this one is ultimately better since you can control how much fat is in your snack. I was given the bigger one as a gift, and decided I would rather have a smaller, personal sized one at work. One drawback: the flange at the top can still get too hot to handle. Also, since it's glass, for those people who only read headlines in the news: no BPA or any scary sounding chemicals.

Small volume of popped corn
Doesn't make very much popcorn...but an air popper to control the amount you want or you'll have to use this thing twice in a row. It would be nice if it had silicone grips or a handle for removing it from the microwave so you do not have to use a potholder. I'm also afraid of how fragile it is. Surely this will not last as long as an air popper. Regretting this purchase: though it does perform as advertised, it's not the best product for me.
