Great taste and great price!
Super easy side dish with great flavor. They are a really good value for the price, and are super convenient for those nights when you didn't plan dinner. Just whip these together, stir in some ham chunks or pieces of chicken, and dinner is served! The flavor and texture are great. They cook up soft and not rubbery like some other dehydrated potatoes. One pack does a 9 X 13 pan and feeds a family of six. I did add a little extra shredded cheese because my family really likes a gooey casserole. I bought another case of these after trying the first packet. Great quality and product size.

Budget friendly, easy, and delicious, with little effort!
These were an easy quick dinner my husband made for me tonight he added cubed ham and cheese. It was an easy one day casserole thatโs hardy and filling. I was skeptical to try them but they turned out great. I donโt know much about the otherwise but Iโm going to be ordering more for sure. For the price it would feed a family of five easily for filling portions with about a pound of ham and a simple salad like we did. I think itโs a budget friendly meal probably less than two dollars a person in a simple filling meal like that.

Follow the recipe
We first tried to make half of the recipe. We reduced all the ingredients by half and it turned out very watery, so there was really no way to judge the taste or texture. We think the problem may have been using a standard-sized, non stick loaf pan. It kept the mixture deep compared to a larger, more shallow pan. We made the next batch in a lightly buttered Pyrex 9" x 12" pan, loosely covered with foil until removing it to brown the top for the last 10 minutes, and it turned out perfectly. Make sure to place the pan on a cookie sheet or large piece of foil to catch any run over. It was drier and what you would think was the correct consistency, not hard to chew, and not mushy. One comment would be to use a sharp or strong tasting cheese for a topping. It adds flavor to an otherwise bland dish. It's an easy dish to add spices or herbs, or even a sauce as a topping when crisping the top. Other than it being expensive for the amount of potatoes you end up with compared to buying 5 lbs of potatoes and a small block of cheese too grate, it is much less messy and a lot less work overall. Deserved 4 1/2 stars.

A Pantry Staple
Iโve been to more than a few traditional Christian funerals with luncheon afterwards in the fellowship hall. There is traditionally a hot dish of shredded potatoes with cream baked to done. Sometimes cheese is sprinkled on top. The goal here is to a good dish, but not great. The be satisfying and filling, without being outstanding. Nobody should go home thinking, โThose potatoes were delicious.โ The potatoes are there to fill and to satisfy, not to impress. The memories should be of the deceased and the homily. What we have here is not Funeral Potatoes. These are filling and satisfying, but also tasty. These are what you would traditionally find at Easter or Thanksgiving or Christmas or some other significant celebratory dinner. But here is the important thing: these are incredibly easy to make. You just literally add water and bake. And now the cook is free to focus on other dishes. Let me save you some clean up: the directions say to mix the package contents with six cups of water in a bowl and transfer to a baking dish. No. Just measure the water into the baking dish, add the package contents, and mix gently. Let them just sit for about 15 minutes to hydrate. Bake time and temperature are very tolerant so this dish can share an oven easily with other dishes. A little cheese and maybe some fried onions or even bacon crumbles on top for the last few minutes are classic. When you mix six cups of water with the packet contents, the result will be an almost liquid slurry. This is correct. Just let it hydrate for 15 minutes or so and bake it at 350-400 for an hour or so. And the leftovers microwave easily. In short, this is a super-easy side dish to accompany so many meals. Itโs a pantry staple you ought to keep on hand.

Needs things added to taste good
This product ended up being an OK side dish for a beef roast for Sunday dinner only because I added quite a few things to it. It is not very good if you just follow the package directions. I added to the mix a bag of frozen peas and about a half cup of parmesan cheese. About 15 minutes before it was done I topped it with another half cup of parmesan, some crushed ritz crackers and poured 4 tablespoons of melted butter over the casserole. It was pretty decent. Actually the leftovers the next day tasted better and were easier to serve. I have one more package to use up but won't be re-ordering.

Strange smell and taste...
We so wanted to like this but... First it wreaked while it cooked... literally... a really strong pungent smell like a sickening perfume your Aunt Zelda from the sticks might wear... seriously, did we get a bad batch?? It didn't smell or potatoes or spices... Then, following the directions, we added our own cheese topping and... that didn't help... The smell didn't get any better when it was time to eat... Finally we had to open windows to help dispel the stench... And spray air freshener all over the place... No, seriously... it was that bad... and LINGERING... all we can wonder is DID WE GET A BAD BATCH?? We CAN'T imagine this is normal... Additionally we have 2 unopened pouches that we are now HESITANT to use... ehhhh.... it honestly smelled nasty and we really wonder DID WE GET A BAD BATCH??
