At first if you don't succeed, try again!
This thing is huge compare to my lacie. The lacie one somehow malfunctioned at the usb port. So I order this one due to the great reviews and 3.0 usb port. At the price, this was easily THE ONE. Anyway, I digress. At first, when I installed it and plugged it in, my pc said that the usb malfunction, and I immediately thought, oh crap, I got a lemon, and oh crap, maybe perhaps because this was an original external hard drive. Then I did some research and it turns out that it was due to my pc having a dead port. So I switched usb ports and voila! Works like a champ! Looks great, love the design. Feels super sturdy and solid. Already in love with it, especially the stand. Overall, day one, it works great! If anything should fail, such as lacie, I will report back here.

Not working well with Windows Pro 64 bit
Disks go to sleep and do not wake up at time when trying to access them. I have switched to another brand and it works great. Not sure if I should mention the other brand.I have thrown away the boxes these came in so I am not returning them. They are going in the trash, all three of them.

Good for the price
Works fine with several different 1,2, and 4TB drives I've used in it. Pop the drive in (make sure it's oriented correctly), shut the door, connect power and USB--it just works. The "key" is just a little hex wrench, so if you lose your key, easy enough to find a wrench that'll fit. (I don't bother locking it.)I haven't used any similar devices, but for a one-bay drive solution it seems sturdy enough. Mostly metal, uses a standard 12VDC power adapter, every drive I tried (2.5 and 3.5) fit. If it dies in a year I'll complain, and I wish it had a fan.

I was wondering what to do with the hard drive from my old desk top. Now I use it for a backup for my lap top. Well built, the only thing it lacks is a small cooling fan.

Easy and works well!
This drive enclosure (SATA) is sooo easy to use - pop the hdd in and close the door! My other drive enclosure (IDE) requires a lot of unscrewing, although it has been working fine for the past 5 years. I had a bunch of SATA hdds to check, and one is currently residing in the enclosure as a back-up hdd. I've been using it for about a month.

Would not recommend.
The product feels solid and has a nice design, but after just a few months it has quit functioning properly. It connects and disconnects frequently causing transfers to stop and get corrupted.

This is GREAT! I opened the door to the unit with the provided key, slid the 4GTB HDD into the slot, connected the included wires, partitioned the drive and bingo...it was ready for data! Absolutely no problems whatsoever!!!
