Label Description:For a long time if you wanted to hear the most exciting new band in Britain, you knocked on a tall black door off the Lambeth Road. An aging British Rail building - part art studio happening, part squat Studio 180 was where south London's Palma Violets were gestating, away from sunlight and the world at large. A thrilling rock'n'roll four piece channeling The Clash, ? and the Mysterians, and the Bad Seeds, from September 2011 they were holed-up here writing songs "their friends could dance to" and occasionally putting on celebratory, ecstatic parties about which word quickly spread.

That garage sound
Palma Violets are a garage rock band, but they are not trying to relive a bygone era of music. Ditching the electronics and big beat that seem to dominate the music scene these days (including The Strokes), the Violets are a straight-forward rock band. The lyrics are not complex or profound, but that's not what I wanted from PV's. I own this on vinyl, which adds to the warm sound. As vinyls these days often do, mine came with an MP3 coupon to download the album electronically for no extra cost. The best songs in my opinion are: We Found Love, Best of Friends, and 14. Despite having my favorites, I prefer to listen to the album front to back.

There's a lot of potential here...
Palma Violets' debut album, 180, isn't destined to change the world; but, it's still a fun album to put on. Songs like "Best of Friends," "Chicken Dippers," and "Tom the Drum" make it clear that the band has a good ear for melody. I'm hoping when it's time to prepare a follow-up, they're able to step away from the hype and give themselves more opportunity to hone their songwriting skills.

Rock & Roll is Alive in the UK
Thank the gods that the UK has not forgotten Rock and Roll. So tired of band after band after band of 90's dream-pop garbage that I could puke glitter. Palma Violets are new, fresh, and they effing ROCK! And, just because they are raucous DOES NOT MEAN they are a Punk Band... How many pre-teen music writers does it take to get it right?Palma Violets kick ass. There. That's all you need to hear. Buy it, roll the windows down in your car and blast it

Love it!
Saw Palma Violets open for Franz Ferdinand. Liked their sound enough to check out their cd. No regrets. Loving their album more with every play. Reminds me a bit of the Clash. Their youth and energy reminds me of Arctic Monkeys...one of my fav bands. Enjoy!

They rock
Very good first effort. Looking forward to hearing them mature as songwriters. By the way, if you have a chance to catch them live DO IT NOW. They are playing small clubs and the live show is absolutely electrifying.

Awesome. Highly Recommended!
Palma Violets debut album is a full-tilt aural assault that pulls from punk pioneers like The Clash and The Sex Pistols. These lads are on to something here. This is the best album by a new artist so far this year. They are fabulous in person too (I saw them at the Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal).

Doesn't live up to the hype!
If you follow British rock press, and let's face it who doesn't! You've been hearing that Palma Violets are the next big thing. While this is a decent first album, it truly isn't the second coming of the Beatles or even Oasis. The Violets will probably be around for a while, the lead singer will probably go solo and Q magazine will probably name them the band of the year. Personally, I don't see it. There is better stuff out there to invest in.

Great new UK music
These guys are mix of all the great British music from the past. Like The Who, Clash, Small faces. It's a raw basic sound with great vocals and a solid mix of sound. Has the feeling of a live album.

A victim of its own hype
I wanted to really like this. I'd bought the singles (e.g. Best of Friends) and felt sure from those, and reading all the positive press, that I knew what I was going to hear. Sadly I think that this band have been ill served by the music press who have massively hyped them before they are a fully formed entity. A touch of the 'king's new clothes'.I was expecting some Vaccines-esqe post punk goodness. What I got though was several songs that felt like half finished sketches with someone shouting over them. To be fair these songs often feel like they have 'potential', good playing of the instruments, interesting melodies etc, but they often seem to ramble too (strange as most are actually quite short so should feel more 'pithy').Worst of all is the 'hidden' 12th track (essentially part of the last real track) this dreadful ditty, which I assume is called 'New Song', is puerile at best and is an ill advised way to close any album - let alone one where you have been willing things to get better ... and they never quite do!I have a feeling this will, quite soon, be a great band - and they are probably already enthralling live - however this first full album didn't really do it for me.

best album of 2013
there have been many album releases this year - both debuts and comebacks - but i'd say this one trumps them all. 180 is such a solid debut album for a really promising band. the songs are wonderfully mixed with many layers of simple instrumentation and every song is fun to sing along to. i can see this band being absolutely incredible at festivals because they have such a big sound and possess an immense energy that can't be faked.

It's ok
This is a descent album but not the best a lot of the songs sound the same and I found them a bit boring after a few listens and I do like my music. Bought this after a lot of recommendations but just not quite there for me. Better bands out there just now
