Viewing Stones of North America: A Contemporary Perspective

This book will startle those who regard the Asian appreciation of unusual stones as some kind of artistic archeology. Elias's book, as did Gerstle's "Beyond Suiseki" in 2006, succinctly chronicles the evolution of ancient Asian stone arts thus far in the 21st century. Elias offers his own insights on this evolution, but opens the forum also to colleagues Paul Gilbert, Rick Stiles, and Richard Turner. Their perspectives make appreciation of the diverse collection that follows all the more intense. This book tells an engaging story of arts that began to emerge thousands of years ago yet are as vital today, challenging contemporary artists to take part in writing the chapters to come.

Beautiful book!
Great book on an interesting topic. The North American perspective is especially attractive. There are viewing stones in this book from locations where I have obtained some of our own viewing stones. Visually stunning, great color photographs and really good details on the whole art of suiseki. I got especially lucky by obtaining a signed copy! Always a nice touch.
