It does not scratch any surfaces. It also will last for many many years - just put in the dishwasher and reuse.

Possibly applying to much pressure? For the most part, just let the weight of the cloth do the scrubbing for you. I've washed: cast iron (with a special natural oil based cast iron cleaner), stainless steel silverware, plastic cups, ceramic dishes, stoneware bowls, even the exterior of a painted stainless steel thermos, all without causing any scratches, and while removing stuck on foods.
