Heartsongs

I read this book first before sending it on to my second cousin for his 12th birthday. He has "butterfly skin" and has been interviewed on the "The Doctors". Mattie and John Hudson Dilgen have much in common. Both diseases are fatal, but, then, aren't we all, although not with this degree of suffering. Both boys have wisdom and perseverance. I was moved by Mattie's insight.

Having seen the story of Mattie on TV I was inspired by him .His poems make me appreciate the ordinary things around me every day. What a contribution to the world by one so young.

Interesting and inspirational, it is a good read when one is feeling a bit overwhelmed.

It is a very touching background story and the poems are beautifully written. It is a comforting book you can pick up again and again.

どうする事もできない運命に立ち向かう勇気が、ここにある。そしてそれは、喜びや希望、感謝の言葉に満ちている。以前は、彼の言葉の一つ一つが、いじらしくて、切なくて、勇気をもらったと感じていた。開戦後、再びページを捲ってみると、心に響く音が変わったように感じられた。私はしばし、この音に耳をかたむけてみようと思う。しかし、素直に感動し、ちょっと涙する方が、彼の願いに近づく最良の方法なのかな．．．などと思わされたりもする。
