Worth it
Mine arrived quickly in perfect condition. It’s exactly as described. From reading other comments, I think a lot of people bought these wo prior experience, bc they thought they’d be easy to grow. They can be but think of them as another fish. They are living plants. The same way you ease a new fish into a tank, same way you make sure that the PH level is ok for that fish, you need to do for these plants. They can not survive in areas of too high or too low PH level. Water temperature matters. Air flow matters a lot as well, they do best wo a ton of water movement until they start growing. They smell like normal pond plants. Natural ponds don’t always smell the best, especially w low air flow, which is what you need so no don’t expect them to smell like roses. But Google is free, follow those steps and you’ll be fine

Arrived in Disgusting Condition – Tried to Save It, But It Died
I ordered this duckweed to add some floating plants to my Walstad method aquariums. Unfortunately, the condition it arrived in was far worse than expected. The cardboard shipping box was slightly damp on the bottom when it arrived, which immediately raised concerns. Inside, I found a small container with a screw on lid holding the duckweed. Turning the container upside down and moving it no water came out. So, it was either wet when packaged or burped out water due to a temperature change during shipment. I opened the container and was hit with an overwhelming smell. It was honestly similar to human sewage or a septic tank. The water inside the container was black and foul. The smell was so bad I had to take the container outside. The duckweed appeared green and just in a disgusting state. I believe this duckweed was likely scooped right out of a lake or pond. For my purposes, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, I actually welcomed the potential for some natural bacteria to jumpstart the ecosystem. So once outside I dumped the contents into a clean, empty 10-gallon tank and began filling it with fresh water. I was hoping to rinse and revive the duckweed, prior to adding it to my other aquariums. As the fresh water mixed with the container’s contents, things got worse. The black water turned a murky dark green, then lighter green as the tank filled. I discovered more surprises: a large dead black beetle, several snails (about half already dead), and rotting bits of unidentifiable plant matter. By the time the tank was full, it looked like it was full on algae bloom. Still, I didn’t give up. I removed the insects, did a 20% water change, and added a generous dose of liquid aquarium fertilizer. I placed the tank outdoors, covered with a mesh screen to keep pests out. It got 4–5 hours of morning sun each day and stayed in the shade for the rest. The outdoor temps stayed between 60°F (night low) and 85°F (day high) the entire time. After three days, the duckweed had lost almost all of its color. I added more fertilizer and gave it another week, but unfortunately, nothing survived. Everything had died by the end of that period, and I had no choice but to dump the tank and call it quits.

Horrid stench "normal"
Important:if you buy this, Open the package *outdoors*! The scent is terrible and very very strong. It's duckweed. Easy to grow. It was cheaper than the gas I'd need to go collect some from a pond so I bought it. When it arrived, I got a quarantine bucket ready and opened the package to dump the plants into the water. A strong, foul sewage stench filled the room and I retched multiple times. I ran the stuff outdoors to quarantine on the porch. So yeah, beneath the packaged plants and the packing slip was a folded piece of paper. The third paragraph there warns of a "normal" sewage odor. Too little too late! My bathroom STILL reeked of sewer gas the next day. Even with the exhaust fan running. So everything is fine now, but I sure wish I'd been warned! Be kind to your nose and open outside. Better still, harvest (and then quarantine) a few plants from your local pond. The stench was from the lack of oxygen during shipping, and unavoidable, but at least you'll be ready for it. I wasn't.

Great, inexpensive duckweed!
My little baggie arrived in great shape. It was a mildly warm day here and they did have to hang out in my mailbox a short while but unpacked a bright, happy green and I immediately placed into a warmed small tank with a tiny bit of bubbles to agitate them just the smallest bit. No odor or issues like others have said. Very minimal broken roots even.

Good value/quality but watch out for hitchhikers
My only complaint: the bag had a lot of dark worms & small snail shells mixed in with the plants. I scooped out what I could & stuck the plants in a quarantine tank for the past 5 days. Whatever had too many worms & I couldn't salvage I unfortunately had to throw away but even with some waste, I def had way more than what I ordered left. The package was double bagged zip locks - a piece of wet cardboard in one & the plants in the other. I was terrified to open the package bc of everyone's reviews about the horrible scent, but the only smell came from the cardboard. Was it bad? Oh absolutely lol but not powerful or overwhelming. The lingering smell that was on the plants themselves left within a couple minutes of them being out of the bag. Every single leaf looked very green & healthy upon arrival & they look even better now that they're back in water. I haven't introduced them to any of my fish tanks yet but my betta had artificial floating plants before & loved them so I can't wait to see how he reacts to these! So far, I'm very happy with this order. I didn't care too much for the hitchhikers but I understand it can't be controlled sometimes. Overall it's very good quality & I will be ordering again if needed!

I do not recommend this product
Wayy too little if your thinking about duckweed buy it from somewhere else, it smelled disgusting I still put it in my tank and some was slimy/brownish. I had removed all the duckweed I could but some is stuck on the filter still.
