Outstanding dies for .38 spl / .357 magnum; robust and very precise (Hornady = quality)
The Hornady Pistol .38-.357-.357 Mag II Three-Die set is an excellent way to produce high quality .38 special and .357 magnum rounds. These dies are well built, extremely precise/adjustable, and should last a very long time. Take your time setting them up correctly and you will be rewarded with high quality ammunition. If you're inexperienced at reloading, you will find the instructions a bit on the sparse side; however, if you have experience loading at least one other caliber, you'll probably be able to figure out. Newbies should consult additional resources online for guidance. To complement this set, I highly recommend Hornady's EXCELLENT bullet feeder die for .38/.357. Contrary to assumption, you do not need the expensive automatic bullet feeder upper unit. You can simply feed bullets into the bullet feeder die (approximately 10 will fit in the die at a time, and many more if you rig up a PVC feed tube like I did, which holds 30 bullets) and they will feed automatically by gravity alone as each case cycles through. It really speeds up reloading compared to setting each bullet in position by hand. In case you're wondering, my LnL AP press is set up as follows when I load .38/.357 rounds: 1. resizer, 2. powder drop, 3. expander, 4. bullet feeder, 5. bullet seater/crimper. This three-die set includes the resizer, the expander, and the bullet seater/crimper. The latter die can be used EITHER to seat the bullet only OR to seat and crimp. I use it to seat and crimp in the same step, which works great and frees up a station for the bullet feeder die, which is worth its weight in gold!

Excellent Dies, Beats RCBS
I love Hornady Custom Grade Dies. This in fact is my second set in a different caliber (my other is in 5.56/223). Some people have complained about the zip-spindle design, chiefly when cases become tight or stuck in the resizing die. The zip spindle is actually a really nice feature and makes setting very easy. In fact, I would argue the give in the zip spindle when a case is sticking is actually a feature, not a bug (it protects the decapping rod/pin). If you lubricate your cases adequately, sticking should never be a problem with these dies. I use Hornady One Shot which is beyond awesome, and I never have stuck cases since I switched from traditional case lube. One feature I especially like about these dies, is the drop down sleeve in the bullet seater. It helps to "right" the bullet prior to contact with the seater. This prevents runouts, but also does not result in glancing "nicks" to polymer tipped bullets - an issue with RCBS dies. The decapping rods/pins are also much more durable than you'll find in RCBS (broken decapping pins are not uncommon in RCBS dies). I didn't start out as a rabid Hornady fan - in fact I had no specific opinion. But after using several RCBS products, and then switching to Hornady, I am now.

Great value and quality.
I personally like Hornady dies they are a great value for the $$. But, being a Gunsmith I have noticed on 2. different sets of dies .243 and .300 Ultra Mag that the dies are a tad bit long and will not let you bump back the brass as far as sometimes needed. I took both sets of dies and put them in the lathe and took a few .000ths off the bottom of each resizing die and problem was solved. this may or may not be a problem for you because I size back alot of brass fired in other peples firearms and not all chambers are the same. If this becomes a problem for you and you don't have access to a lathe you can take the shell holder and sand down the area that comes in contact with the bottom of the die with wet and dry sand paper with some WD-40 etc. on it for lube and you'll be fine that way.

Hornady Custom Grade Dies
Very nice die set once you know it's quirks.. Yes the zip spindle is a pain in the you know what but once set you are good to go. And yes, make sure you fully de grease when you get them. Quirk 1, use plenty of lube and because of that. Clean the die often so you don't get a stuck case. Quirk 2, maybe this is just my set but I had to set the decapper right at 3/16 out the bottom or it didn't want to get a full resize. (Once fired brass really tight in the chamber) I usually use rcbs for resizing (But all I had for 308 was a lee set) but I liked the seating die enough that I bought the set. It does a darn nice job without breaking the bank. The inside of the sizing die was really polished and smooth. The seating die is the best standard seater I have ever used. Very good buy in my view and DO NOT FORGET TO TIGHTEN THE zip spindle ! (Yea, learned the hard way..LOL )

Fantastic! I'm fairly new to reloading but so far I definitely prefer the custom series dies over the American series, it has that helpful alignment sleeve which lines up the bullets prior to meeting the die which for polymer tips is just the business! These came with the titanium nitride sizing die meaning that you don't need to lube the case and there is no risk then of contaminating the cases or primer. It's saved me hours on reloading! And it's very affordable!
