Protection you need
Sunglasses are important and necessary for every day in the sun. Yes, these glasses give UV protection,I find them to be super comfortable, are stylish, and block glare and bright lights. But, my son, who is law enforcement, advises that the impact resistance of the lens and frame is what sold him. For the range, he likes the non-polarized version which is better where sun isn't issue but impact protection is a must. I spent more on other sunglasses before these and found these to be better all every level for me.

Sleek & functional, just what I was looking for
I decided to purchase Smith Optics' Director sunglasses after I lost a pair of Native Dash XPs recently.Having read about the kinda scary effects of repeated sun exposure to our eyes, I knew I needed a pair that blocked all UV. I knew I also wanted polarized lenses to cut down on glare. Of course, hundreds of sunglasses do that.I went with the Director from Smith after reading favorable reviews for their protectiveness. Plus I was looking for a matte black, unassuming pair of sunglasses that didn't look too sporty or too casual. This is one of the few styles I liked, aside from Native's Throttle. One warning: they fit snugly on my head. Smith's website lists their exact dimensions so do make sure they won't be too small for you.Otherwise I've been liking them.

Great glasses, but not for me.
I love Smith Optics sunglasses for both the lenses and overall product quality; these were great in that respect. I bought these after l lost my favorite pair of Smith Optics model Outlaw sunglasses last year, thinking that the shape was similar and they'd be an acceptable replacement. Unfortunately this model was different enough that I just didn't like the way they looked on me; a shame, as the Outlaw model is now discontinued. My rating is simply based on my preference, and does not reflect on the quality or construction of the glasses.

2+ Years and still going strong - 10/10 would buy again
I've owned these sunglasses since May 2013, and I wear them almost every single day. They still look almost brand new. I'm not careful with them, rarely do I put them in a case. Often, I find them on my couch cushion or the floor. Little minor scratches have appeared on the lenses, but you really have to look close to see. They do not effect vision at all. They're very comfortable, never slip down my nose, and I feel great wearing them. The polarized lenses are such an added benefit to these glasses, the only way I can explain it is that it turns a light-washed faded world into a vibrant colorful array of scenes and colors. Clouds, trees, skies all look so much more vivid and colorful through these.Lastly, I think they look badass.

Smith "Director" glasses as safety glasses
After reading about tests performed on these glasses to assess their usefulness as safety glasses, I bought them specifically to use as safety glasses for shooting. Great glasses. They fit tightly and don't slide down my nose and their optical quality seems just fine. Nicely made and a reasonable price. I have not seen tinted lenses however. I use the clear lenses. Be aware: the frames are pretty visible if you're using these for shooting. You may find that the black frames are a bit thick and can interfere with your line of sight when using a scoped rifle. You can work around it though.

Don't buy the polarized version!!!
I own both the Polarized and Non-Polarized versions of the same sunglasses. Quality is good and the fit is perfect for my small to medium sized head.I would highly recommend the Non-Polarized version as the lenses are neutral grey and does not distort any colours. The polarized version has got a very slight yellowish tint which I do not like. There is also some sort of coating on the rear side of the lenses that is difficult to clean and it feels like rubber when you run the cleaning cloth over the lenses. The polarization work great but the coating sucks. It feels like I bought a cheap pair of sunglasses that is branded.Other Polarized sunglasses that I own does not have the yellowish tint and rubbery feel on the lenses. I was very disappointed with the polarized version and gave it away to my friend who also finds that the rubbery coating on the lenses attract dirt.........I expected better from SMITH for the price I'm paying but it just feels cheap.......

Excellent shooting glasses!
I was very excited to see Smith Optics create their Elite Division. I have worn their sunglasses and goggles for years. They make excellent products and stand behind them. When they started offering the Director Tactical sunglasses, I had to get a pair! I now have two with different lenses for varying light conditions. They are light, comfortable, safe and look great. I highly recommend them for use by American Zoot Shooters Association (AZSA) participants or for any shooting sport.
