Two CD collection. The follow-up to Light In The Attic's game-changing I Am The Center box set is finally here. Three years in the making, The Microcosm: Visionary Music Of Continental Europe, 1970-1986 is the first major overview of key works from cosmically-taped in artists needing little introduction - Vangelis, Ash Ra Tempel, and Popol Vuh - and and unknown masterpieces by criminally overlooked heroes like Bernard Xolotl, Robert Julian Horky and Enno Velthuys. Whereas I Am The Center called for a reconsideration of an entire maligned genre, The Microcosm requests nothing more than an open mind to consider this ambient, new age, neuzeit, prog, krautrock, cosmic, holistic stuff, whatever one calls it as a pulsating movement unto itself, a mirror refracting the American new age scene in unexpected, electrifying ways, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt the universality of the timeless quest to express "the Ineffable" through music. Drawing from major label budgets and homemade cassette distributed circumstances alike, The Microcosm demonstrates a depth of peace profound to behold, and clearly expands the boundaries. Lovingly conceived and lavishly presented by producer Douglas McGowan (Yoga Records) and liner notes contributor Jason Patrick Woodbury (Pitchfork, Aquarium Drunkard), The Microcosm features stunning cover paintings by Ătienne Trouvelot, and labels by Finnish savant Aleksanda Ionowa.

Two Silver Discs of Ambient Music From the Inner Havens of Creativity!
Another brilliant and well thought out electronic music compilation from the Light in the Attic label. If you own the earlier 2 disc compilation I Am Center(which is brilliant in its own right) this is like a companion set but all European musicians. A virtual compendium of pioneering sound sculptors some more well known Vangelis than others Ralph Lunsten. The liner notes are from recent re-connections with many of these 1970s artists and its a chock-full of real insight into their mindset during the making of the pioneering music on these discs.I cannot say enough good things about this compilation its worth its weight in gold IF you enjoy serene electronic music that doesnt involve head pounding beats. This is music for the inner cosmos.......

Great period Electro/Ambient sampler!
An excellent collection. A few of the usual suspects, e.g., Roedelius and Vangelis, but plenty of names and music I've never heard or even heard of before. A must for any fan of the genre!

Great compilation.
Great album. Introduced me to some fantastic music - Bernard Xolotl, and others, and also music by artists I know a bit about but not all e.g Vangelis. Fantastic booklet to accompany the lp. Only gripe is that they should have included the full length version of Popil Vuh's excellent BrĂŒder des Schattens â Söhne des Lichts from the film Nosferatu and not the shortened version.

Far out but a great exploration.
Heavy stuff that needs some listening but the scope covered is wide both in the calendar time of each piece's creation and in the style of the music presented. A lot of memories for me and much interesting music to explore ...... you are unlikely to appreciate everything but it is a treasure chest for the items you will and do like.
