It says that is extends up to 10 ft wide, what does it start at for width?  Can I have it set up at 6ft one day and 10 the next?

it have 4 cross bar with 2.5ft each. you can start with 2 cross bars minimum which it 5ft, 7.5 ft and 10ft

Would this backdrop set be able to hold curtains? or fabric? it will be used behind our wedding cake and i dont want it falling onto the cake

That's exactly what it was designed to do. If your curtains have a hanging loop sewn into one end, just slide the horizontal bar through the loop, and set it onto the upright poles. If not, then a package of inexpensive clamps will hold any fabric in place. Question 3

I have a banner that I'd like to use with this that has a pole insert. What is the diameter of the top pole? Would 2" work or is 4" better?

I don't have time to measure it right now.  It isn't that thick.  I was able to measure the opening in a backdrop that I have and it is 6", and there is a lot of extra room.  2" would probably work, but 4" would be better to be safe.

Can this be used as a dessert table backdrop to hang drapes?
