Very good introduction to the Kanna. Step by step, well explained and nicely illustrated. From initial setup to regular maintenance. The book learns me that I have a lot of skills to master to achieve the results I a looking for.

Desmond has done an excellent job in detailing what is involved in the setup, care and maintenance of a kanna. Setup right, they are extremely useful tools and this book is an excellent reference to help you achieve results!

Well written and very useful information about setting up your kanna for a beginner. I have recently purchased my first kanna and looked all over for the information on tuning it for a beginner. There are lot of youtube videos and articles on the web but none as clear as this book is. I would recommend this book to anyone who is new to kanna and looking for information on tuning it.

Well written and very informative. The book is a most have for anyone interested in Japanese furniture making.

I liked the amount of research that went into this ebook, especially the naming of the parts of the traditional Japanese plane. The author has a vast amount of personal experience as a competent craftsman in the woodworking trades to draw upon both Eastern and Western. Some readers may want a printed version, though that exists in a bigger book on Japanese joinery. Anyway, I am glad I discovered this gem; it puts material, I read twenty years ago, into better context. Many thanks.

A very detailed book says it all takes a lot of mystery out of the kana, glad I read it before I bought my first Kana, actually all this Authors book are equally detailed.
