Highly Recommended But No Photos
This book was very well written. It flowed very smoothly, and as some other reviewers pointed out, it had a very warm, intimate conversational tone. I could see Mr. Hauer sitting across from me with his coffee and hear him speaking the dialogue in the Dutch accent he had early in his career. Some of the Dutch social attitudes, preference for plain speaking, disdain for pretension and dislike for b.s. came across very clearly in the writing. I don't know how much input the co-author had, but Mr. Hauer's voice is evident. In keeping with his view that in acting, less is more, Mr. Hauer's prose is direct and spare. However, through his use of understatement and irony, he does reveal matters close to his heart. His love for his wife, family, friends and country shine through, as does his compassion for others. As the title suggests, we get some of the highlights of Mr. Hauer's life and career, the moments that brought him from where he was to where he is now. I looked at some of the other reviews before I bought 'All Those Moments' and noticed that several reviewers would have liked more space devoted to the movies. It's funny because after reading this book, I would have liked more about Mr. Hauer's later life in Holland. The early years were covered, but then the emphasis shifted to life in the film industry. I don't want "enquiring minds want to know" details, but I had hoped for a non-invasive glimpse of this aspect.I was very disappointed that there were no photos in the book. I didn't pay close attention when I purchased the book, but after I read it, I found where the publisher stated that the electronic edition has no fotos. They add greatly to a book like this, and it is frustrating that publishers leave fotos, illustrations and maps out of the eBooks in many cases.I enjoyed the book, especially the part with the early years. I loved 'Soldier of Orange', so it was very nice to learn something about how it was made. For those more interested in the Hollywood years, there are plenty of interesting tidbits and personal observations. This was not what I would consider to be a full, comprehensive biography, but an overview with highlights of some memorable moments. It made for a pleasant, engaging read.I was tempted to give this book fewer stars because of the lack of photos, but that is not the author's fault. Curse all publishers who withhold photos, maps and illustrations! I am giving the book five stars and I highly recommend it, as long as the reader is aware that this is an overview and lacks fotos.

A glimpse into Rutger Hauer's life
It's very interesting to read what someone has wished to write down about his life and his work. I read this book the day after Mr Hauer died. He was a person of rare acting ability and also, it would seem, of a depth of character which one is not customed to finding in most of the people who pursue his profession.

As unusual as the man
Why 5 stars? Is it perfect? No, not really, but it feels like you're seeing into the head of a striking and unique individual. It seems like he did have a lot of the same qualities as Roy Batty. I enjoyed the tales of what it was like growing up in Holland and what the acting life was like over there. I read it with great interest in two sittings, and would've enjoyed more. Even his disjointed diary entries at the end were so honest. Plus, the proceeds of all sales of the book go to AIDS foundations, and did even before his death. Seems like a cool dude, indeed. I'm glad he shared some record of his life.

Happy I discovered this book!
I Haven't finished it yet, I like to savor each part. He writes the way he acted, honest with insightful nuggets. He describes events with details that we could not know before he shared them. He was private about his life and I didn't even know he was married. I became a fan the first time I saw him, I think it was in 1983 in Osterman Weekend, followed by Ladyhawke in 1985. He has 173 movies listed on IMDB. Of course, not all were made in the USA. He spoke several languages which made him very valuable to Directors everywhere. I think I've seen all of the ones released or made in the USA.

Interesting and insightful autobiography of a memorable actor
Rutger Hauer was one of those actors whose work I knew, but whose actual _life_ I knew nothing about. This autobiography took care of that, providing a mix of life stories and lessons, detail on selected movies from his career, and also some random thoughts and journal notes. It was engaging, as well as a fun and easy read. I found the insights into a couple of his movies (like Blade Runner) to be fascinating, and his approach to acting was educational to me as a non-actor.

The years of the man 1967 to 2006
It doesn't tell you the entire life due to his death this previous year. But all the info given helps fans see insight into his mind during the big roles of his career abroad and stateside.

"Ah, kinship!"
Regardless of his many not-so-great films, like many, I've been a fan of Rutger Hauer since his astonishing performance as Roy Batty in Blade Runner. I found his book enjoyable and interesting. I especially liked his descriptions of the European perspective on what constitutes a quality film, or, at least what they seemed to like in Holland. What I particularly find interesting are the behind-the-scenes machinations and relationships that go into producing popular films, and I wish the book had more of that. However, overall, the book was fun and informative. Well done, Mr. Hauer. One more thing: keep in mind the Kindle version of this book does not include the illustrations found in the hard copy editions. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time, and I'll definitely consider this when deciding to purchase any future HarperCollins e-books.

Moments that we should not lose in time
I write this more than a year after the purchase of the book and his very, very sad departure.I was obviously a big fan of Rutger, mostly via my total addiction to Blade Runner, but also for other films like The Hitcher and Osterman's Weekend. After reading this book my admiration has grown much more, and I would have liked to have met him in the flesh, because he comes through as a very honourable, captivating and witty person. He really is Roy Batty through and through, and I was amazed to find out, almost 40 years later, that the famous ending line ("I've seen things.... Time to die") was his own work: the notion brought tears to my eyes, on top of those I shed for his passing away, the same year as in Blade Runner, 2019....The story of his life and career is interesting and very well written here, including his accidents and misfortunes. The book goes beyond Rutger and gives insights into life as an actor and all that goes around it.If you liked Blade Runner, you gotta have this book, but even if you didn't, God forbid, it is totally worth a read.R.I.P. my friend Rutger, I'll always miss you.

Very good but...
It was not what i expected. He's a bit of a quiet soft soul, left leaning. I was expecting a cool mad man
