Expensive, but it really works as well as they claim.
I've used this product for years--probably every other year. I wait and postpone it until the pans are in really awful shape. I can't say it's enjoyable to use. I hate the smell and the mess I have to make to bring out all my pots and pans out on the same day, wait until they are ready, scrub the product off, wash the pans to get off residual product and smell, and put them away again. It's a project alright, and one I don't relish. After all this, you might wonder why I still gave it 5 stars. It is because it works really well. But the product works so well that my old pans end up looking new again--quite an accomplishment since I've had many of them for the 44 years I've been married, I cook and even fry a lot, and the pans do get a lot of burned on grease and guck with continued (almost daily) use. I've tried to use oven cleaners to see if they work, and the results have not been impressive. This product DOES give impressive results, so here I go again.BTW, be sure to have a 1" or 1 1/2" bristle brush to apply the product and lots of newspaper to put the pans on when the product is doing its thing. If you have a table in your back porch, you might want to do it there since the smell of many pans with carbon-off applied can be very noticeable. If you (like me) have asthma, you definitely need to do this outside.

From Long Experience, My Go-To Product
I LOVE Carbon Off because I hate to clean greasy or caked on carbon deposits off of grills, stove-top grates, cast iron or stainless steel pots and pans and the like. This also works very well on grease trap mesh filters on my range hood. (This is not the product to use on aluminum pots and pans or non-stick coatings or self-cleaning ovens. Brush this on (far better than using the spray can, where the sprayer clogs, leaving most of the product inside and useless), wait a bit...and what looked to be impenetrable carbon desposits will 'gator' and lift. Much of the residue can be wiped off with a paper towel. A good bit can even be rinsed off with hot water but that will not do the whole job. This is far less miserable than using a brass wire or iron wire brush to try to lift the same deposits since brushing takes 'forever' and bits of scoured off material tend to fly about and will need to be cleaned up in a separate operation. For my money, this is much easier and much less time consuming than using AJAX or BABBO type abrasives to remove carbon and fat stains. CAUTIONS: Of course this stuff is caustic: wear chemical proof safety gloves. The fumes are not pleasant so people with respiratory challenges should avoid this product and the rest of us should use it in a well ventilated space.

This product is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to use!
This product does what it says it does! I was very happy with the results. I used it on my industrial panini machine I bought second hand and had not been cleaned in years. I foolishly didn’t read the safety instructions on the bottle so I ran into some problems in the beginning. I have used industrial degreasers in the past without protective gear (though it suggests it on the bottle) and I was fine. This product is much much harsher. I first used vinyl disposable gloves and the chemical burned right through them. I got a tiny amount on my skin and it was very painful. It left a red mark on my arm for 3 days. Next I tried just rubber gloves which was fine. I also found the smell to be overwhelming so I had to wear a mask and goggles so the product wouldn’t get onto my face when I did some light scrubbing. Overall, the product worked well. You can even hear it breaking down the carbon. Just read the safety precautions on the bottle and you’re all good!

It works as advertised
This stuff is super-powerful and smelly - but it works. Cleans our pans and our stovetop - with the kitchen exhaust fan running. Started off years ago using the spray cans - but they have problems with clogging after initial use. Now use this liquid tin & dedicate a cheap bristle brush to applying it. I used this to restore a Wagner cast-iron fry pan inherited from my grandmother purchased in the 1930's that was so crusted with carbon you could not read the info on the bottom. After two rounds the pan was perfectly clean. Re-seasoned it & have been using it for 8 years now.

This seems to work
This stuff took off the cooked on muck that barkeeps helper couldn't really handle.Pictures are two objects:One is a burner head i should have taken a before pic of, first. An assigned aide to mom was frying. Oil overflowed. (Could have burned my house down.) The burner head was coated and cooked on. First is the OTHER burner. Second is after two apps, one a few hours, the second about 15-20 minutes. You can see some residual carbon in this hard-to-reach corner. The third is the same piece, after simply sticking a soft cotton swab in that corner, to wipe it.Overall, not as clean as the non abused head. But still 95 or more percent better. A total immersion and a light wire brush, and it would be carbonless. Probably not going to bother. The second are two burners. One showing cooked on food around it. Barkeeps helper will take this off at maybe 15 minutes of scrubbing per half inch or inch. This took the whole ring off in 15 minutes of waiting. The second burner is after. Was one tiny spot left where it was thicker, if I were being picky, which another spot application took care of. I could have just waited another few minutes, probably. So yeah... it works.Turn on the stove vent to take out odor. Or open a window,, to be safe. Oder was not bad, but certainly worse when it made contact with water.I applied it with an old tooth brush. Wiped stove with towels. Should use your heavy kitchen gloves with this.
