A must have for the serious VB Programmer
I would not think of doing without Dan's API guide.I started Windows in 1991 with C and SDK. In those days you had to learn the API to get your work done. But, after VB 3.0, I got completely away from C and intimate knowledge of the API. Dan's book de-mystifies the Win32 API.New and intermediate VB programmers will find his explanations easy to follow. Dan tells you why things work the way they do and warns about any pitfalls using VB for API calls. (There are not many problems, but they do exist.)I you have not got this book and you are serious about VB, I recommend you get it.

Most important book for VB programmers.
This is one of the few books in my programming library that I use extensively. No joke, this book is awesome. It has just about every known API call that you could possibly use in VB (Though not every one, I think this is due to the time this book was published.) Explains, in detail, what they're for and how to use them.Previously, API calls via VB were extremely painful. I usually ended up on the floor with my poor brain bleeding. But Dan Appleman not only tells you what the API calls do but he teaches you how to translate C API calls into VB API calls. I consider this the most important section in the book. He explains in detail how VB works vs. C and gives detailed explanations about each of C's declerations and the VB equivalent. This well thumbed book helped push me away from depending on other people for VB API translations and I've managed to translate a number of DLL's designed for C like languages for use in VB with great success. My only gripe is that I wished he explained the ourtrageously strange pointer to a pointer stuff that C used. Many a time I've been tempted to tear the chapters out of this book because of it's sheer volume but this book is a must for any VB programmer, especially one with weak C programming skills such as myself. My poor book has a dirty cover and well stained pages from reading it so much. I suspect yours will look similar as well.

Essential book for all VB Programmers!
Personally I think this book should be on every desk of every Visual Basic programmer. I think that it is laid out well and the examples in the book are easy to follow. This is not a book that you read before bed or that will keep you up at night with the plot twists but it does what it says. Essentially this is a refrence book on the applications programmers interface which is the backbone of the Windows OS. This is an updated version of the book meant for VB6 users but it could be used by older versions of the lanquage. Essentially it is *the* book to have if you are serious about VB6 programming.

Old but still very useful.
The Dan Appleman Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to the Win32 API is an old book but it is still very useful as a reference manual for programmers working on windows. Even in the wonderful world of .net, API calls have their place and this is one handy little book to look up declarations and parameters that can be adapted for whatever language you are currently using be it VB, C# etc.. So if are updating you personal or company reference library you should have a copy of this book..

Good if you like the old vb6
Got it to remember what I'd forgotten. Came quickly. Good condition but no cd disk which is a pity. Fortunately I have loads of Dan Appleton's software.
