Curious as to why I was sent a car diagnostic scanner instead of the microphone I ordered?

I received the same scanner when I first ordered this item. I called Amazon's customer service and they gave me a credit for the purchase. I reordered the item and received the mic. If at first you dont succeed, try again?

why doesnt the mic work when i plug my afterglow headset into my controller?

You might have to reset the headset. Or just reinstall the mic piece
