Awesome book with many ideas
This was a great book. It had landscaping ideas for privacy and also had landscaping ideas for other things as well. This includes landscaping for noise reduction, landscaping as barriers to your property and landscaping to deter cats among other things. The title of the book should be called Landscaping For a Purpose.

Creativity in Landscaping
Our neighbors recently added additional space to their second floor which now overlooks our deck and back yard. I was searching for some cost effective ideas to diffuse the view from the neighbors that would be attractive and easy to maintain. This book is full of sensible ideas that do not cost a fortune to implement. Working on my planting list and looking forward to having a private backyard again soon.

Wonderful pictures ideas and a Plant list!
Love this book! It gives you ideas and general how to instructions on how to create private outdoor spaces in yards big and small.Thiis is not a DIY book. It is a wonderful inspirational book worthy of being a coffee table book. It also has a great plant list divided into the uses of plants such as shade screening and full grown sizes, soil, drainage and water needed for each needed.

Inspiring landscape ideas but questionable suggestions for well established practices
There are many facets to landscaping that I have yet to unveil. The upside to Wingate's book is that I was introduced to various terminology and concepts that may appear familiar in terms of illustrations but not in words. Although some readers will be disappointed in the lack of illustrations, I for one appreciate that the author chose to incorporate scientific names alongside common names of plants. To reduce cost for publication, it's understandable...especially when one can access the web at their fingertips in this day and age. As a first time home owner I have seen and visited a number of places that had parterres or knot gardens but had no idea what they were called. This book also explains a number of different materials used for fencing and barriers to shield unwanted views or wildlife intrusions. However, my disappointment and thus motivation for writing this review was spawned when Wingate suggested that a lawn mower can be hidden or stored under a long branch tree. The author gave several suggestions of bypassing a prefab shed for tool storage. In my opinion, rain and wind contribute to a thing known as oxidation and thus that results in machinery's worst nightmare- RUST. Even garden tools that are coated with anti rust properties eventually give way if not properly stored. So if you purchase this book, it contains valuable information but also questionable suggestions.

Great landscaping book
This was a Christmas present for my daughter and she was so happy to see it when she opened the package. She has a large yard with old trees and little privacy and this book will give her a lot of ideas.

Everyone enjoys Privacy
This concept is at odds with our current 'look at me' culture - but it is something that has always been desired by the wealthy. Some good ideas for tasteful screening, lots of types of trees and shrubs and some good photography.

Good beginning, but other books are recommended
This book is a good beginning on your road to creating a private yard. The ideas are there, but it is lacking specific details in the form of drawn up plans. The pictures are great, but you need to use your imagination somewhat to understand what the authors are trying to get across.

Mostly pictures
It's a good book and if you can find it on sale then it's worth it. Mostly pictures with some details of plant names. To make this book perfect, meaning so we don't have to research online afterwards, is to have information on climates. Such as which bush will still be thick enough during winter to keep the privacy.

Definitely buy it
I bought this book having zero interest in landscaping but we moved onto an exposed corner and hated it. Bought this and had great ideas and concepts to change how I feel about the house
