best workout for the home-bound
i'm a home-bound caregiver. it has always been a challenge to get enough exercise. i originally found out about this book when looking for a workout for a prison pen-pal who asked me to help her find one. then i ordered a copy for myself. i have found the book very easy to use, and the best part is, my body is the only equipment i need. i have enjoyed the workouts and it has made a big difference in my quality of life. it accomplishes the goals of building muscles, losing weight and stress relief, while increasing my self-esteem. i highly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to try it for taking better care of themselves. i am now online to order another copy for a friend. this is the third copy i am buying. i'm very grateful to Mr. Flanders for writing this book. many people are home-bound or for various reasons, lack access to workout facilities or safe places to walk or run or bicycle. this book serves a great need.

Great book for anyone on the inside from what I've been told for the ppl I've bought it for.
I bought this for someone very close to me who is in there for 20 years & they loved it, they have recently become close friends with one of my best friends who is in there for life. He noticed the book and was very interested in it so I bought him one too, he really likes the book also. I think I might buy one for myself also... So far from what they are telling me this is a great book for anyone on the inside especially with this pandemic going on and how they are on lockdown most of the time. They really like there is picture

It is a well done book, and worth buying
Just a great straightforward guide for legitimate exercise. You dont need to be a trainer to understand the content and there are a lot of helpful photos. For the style of exercise that I enjoy, this book has been a great reference.

Good but forgets to cover biceps
Good book but contains absolutely no exercises to work the biceps. You will need either a pull-up bar or resistance bands to fill that need.

Inspired me to fitness
Never been a gym person. Too intimidating. Couldn't do more than 10 push ups without collapsing. My weight crept up over the past few years, grew a gut, decided to act.Bought this book, followed it religiously for 5 weeks. Starts off nice and easy. Gradually builds up in difficulty. By week 4 I had built some definition on my chest and arms. I gave up the program at week 5 as the exercises became too hard for beginners (plyo press ups). I also didn't fancy doing all cardio at the end of the program. Not a criticism. Exercise was now a habit. I was addicted.I now follow my own home calisthenics program and set my own targets thanks to the kickstart this book gave me. 3 months later, I can comfortably do 3 sets of 24 pressups.I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get into shape and build some core strength. You won't look like the author after 8 weeks but it will certainly set you off in the right direction to looking like him in a more realistic 8-10 months.

Only fitness book i got past the first two weeks
I liked the slow start and exercising every other day, yet it felt like I'd stretched every major muscle. After three weeks I feel a bit fitter, and I've started to enjoy the exercises. However, I'm the wrong side of 65 years old, overweight and haven't exercised for 10 years, so I have had to modify a few exercises and repeat the first two weeks. It will take me some months to get up to the cardiac level chapters.Even so, I'll keep going. I've bought several books on the same theme and none are as good as this one - Cell Workout is just at the right level and with enough bite to encourage you to continue, albeit slowly in my case.

The simple approach the book takes with easy to follow pictures of the exercises sectioned by workout ...
This is the only workout book you will ever need.If you do not have the time, money or inclination to join a gym, often have the fleeting desire to do some exercise this is the book for you. The simple approach the book takes with easy to follow pictures with exercises sectioned by workout type is excellent in all regards ,there is a 10 week workout plan at the back of the book. The shear amount of exercises using the body only ,is daunting to say the least, I have weights tucked all around the house hidden away, which I can never be bothered to find when I feel that I should be doing something, with this book you can just go into a room and start a workout using nothing but your body. Once you start to follow this book it can become addictive but you would probably need to be imprisoned , because the amount of time that would be required to follow all the exercises. A slow start for most people would be the way, following warm up, stretching exercise then cherry picking your own workout from the numerous exercises available, other similar exercises can then be used for variation .L Flanders said he took 5 months to prepare his body for the pictures, he probably started from a good position, with this in mind you soon realise to limit your expectations, but the visual goal is always there to motivate

A superb book!!
For me, this has got to be the best book I have read on the subject of training using one's own bodyweight in a confined space. It is well written, well laid out, with colour photographs showing each exercise. The exercises are easy to follow, with lots of simple explanations of how to do each exercise. There is also a good explanation into the physiology of the human body. The author has obviously delved very deeply into this subject. Why he ended up asa " guest " of Her Majesty I don't know; quite frankly I don't care. What I do care about is that I now have a " tool " which will help me to exercise now that I no longer use weights. One of the best parts of this book is the section on relaxation. Thank you LJ Flanders!!!!

Comprehensive, all that you could ask for really
I bought the paper version of this (as opposed to Kindle) and am glad that I did. The book now sits in my home gym for easy reference. A meaty, A4 sized reference and the material can be followed right out the open book when exercising.I have really enjoyed this as a workout manual. There are a huge number of exercises in here, many of which I'd never seen or heard of. The photography and text combine superbly, making each exercise easy to understand. Many will need some practice and my goodness you will be sore after quite a few of them, but of course hitting your full portfolio of muscles is the goal after all. Its been nice to get away from traditional strength training for a while. Now in my 50's my physique goals have changed quite a bit since younger.I particularly liked the latter chapters, which layout an easy to follow program of beginner to advanced strategy. A full series of strength training weeks followed by cardio only isn't a philosophy I've seen before but I am seeing the benefits of floor work already and am looking forward to the cardio. If you are currently working from home as a result of the pandemic, this book is an absolute no-brainer. Easy to get into, addictive and fun. Highly recommended.
