Toyota 84840-35010 Back Door Opener Switch

The liftgate switch on my ‘07 4runner had become melted (common problem) and then would freeze in cold weather so that I literally couldn’t open the door. I installed this part and it works like new. It is -3° outside right now and I barely have to touch the switch to make it open. Really happy to have made the replacement. You do have to take apart the whole inside of the liftgate in order to remove the plastic piece above the license plate (the piece with the Toyota logo below the rear window) and access the plug/connector for this switch. It took me a couple of hours, mostly due to a hard-to-reach nut and my lack of the proper tools. A handier, better-equipped person might do it in 30 min.

With very little trouble and some mechanical know-how, plus buy the little plastic pry tools for the rear hatch interior, this clean unit went right in. No more old and stiff, melting button. Just like new again.

Button works well but I had to cut away the included harness and splice the wires into my factory harness.

This part was perfect. I dealt with the original melted switch way too long. This winter has been very cold so my tailgate wouldn't open at all unless the vehicle was in the garage. Installation was pretty basic. A 10mm socket with extension is all that is needed. Took maybe 1/2 hour.

The original switch became like almost goo (after 15 years). I've had this switch installed almost a year now and it's worked great.
