Piel Leather Ladies Laptop Tote, Saddle, One Size

We wanted to get a nice leather tote for our daughter in medical school. We went back and forth between this bag and the laptop tote made by Le Donne. I'll include some comments about that bag in this review, in case you are looking for a comparison. In the end we went with this bag because it is slightly smaller, and our daughter wanted something that could hold a lot but not look overpowering. The LeDonne bag is probably 1 1/2" wider, which does make it look larger. But it is also nice, if you want another option.This is a nice leather tote. It is of nice thickness, while not too heavy. It is black, made of cowhide and made in Columbia, same as the LeDonne. The leather on my bag is nice without any flea bites or marks. It is top-grain cowhide, so I guess this can vary by bag. My impression is Piel is selective with their leather pieces. It has contrasting off-white stitching, which adds to its style. I thought the texture of the leather on the LeDonne bag was nicer, but it did not have the contrasting stitching, which dresses up this bag.Overall size is 16 1/2" long and 12 1/2" tall, and about 6 1/2" wide. It weighs right around 3 pounds.The straps are adjustable and I would estimate they can be adjusted to drops of between 8" and 12". The straps are the only part of this bag I think are just OK. They are flat and don't seem as nice as the rest of the bag. I think they will hold up, but they just look cheaper than the rest of the bag. The straps is where the LeDonne bag was the clear winner. The leather on those straps were rolled/wrapped and looked really nice, but they did not adjust, so if you want straps that adjust, these do, the LeDonne does not.The exterior includes small metal feet on its flat base to keep the tote off the ground if you put it down on surfaces. They are on each corner plus one foot in the middle, five altogether. There is also a zippered compartment on the outside. The interior also zippers shut with a leather surrounded zipper. The handles are adjustableInside is a laptop compartment which will hold tablets or most laptops. The compartment is about 13 1/2" by 11" x 2". My laptop is 13 1/2" wide by 9 1/4" and fits snugly without forcing it. You can, of course, still hold a larger laptop in the bag, just not in the laptop sleeve itself. The interior also includes another zippered pocket, as well as phone, pen, and another pocket to hold small items. The pocket has a cover flap and resembles a change purse. These are all covered in a firm leather. everything in the interior has the same contrasting stich work found on the exterior. The interior lining is a cream nylon.The interior organizer compartments on the LeDonne bag were similar. I think there was a bigger zippered pocket on the inside but the exterior pocket did not zip, it was just an open pocket.Overall, I do not think you can go wrong with either bag. They cost about $20 apart when we bought this one. The Piel bag was more, but in the end won out due to the slightly nicer look with the stitching, the adjustable handles, and the fact that it was a little smaller, which matter to our daughter who is petite. I also think Piel backs the bag with a 3 year warranty and Ledonne may have been one year.Thus far, our daughter loves the bag and uses it daily. I would not hesitate to try other Piel products based on this bag. I rated it below 5 stars only because the straps weren't quite as nice as the rest of the bag.

Large enough to hold my 13" MacBook Air (in a padded pocket) and a folder of papers to grade. Slim enough to be graceful. Large outside zipper pocket easily holds wallet, cell phone, keys and much more. Leather feels great and flat straps sit nicely on shoulder. Love the metal feet -- will definitely extend useful life of project. Only down side is that inner zipper pocket is on the opposite side of the outer zipper pocket so depending on what you have in the pockets it can be lumpy on both sides -- every bag I've owned had that same issue.

Great work bag. I carry my laptop, lunch, papers, as well as wallet, phone, keys, etc and it all fits nicely. I walk about 3/4 mi each way taking the train to work and it's always comfortable. I especially like the functional buckle straps - I can wear them looser in winter to fit over a coat and tighter in summer when they just go over a dress. The leather wears nicely and gets a nice patina as it ages.

So very nice, I'm buying another in black. I bought this as a gift for my sister and she loves it.

Felt cheap and cheaply made. Seams on the handles felt like they'd break with weight

A bit pricey, but good solid bag; came promptly, and was as illustrated. Fitsa MacBook Pro 13" in a thin sleeve inside nicely, with some room for extras,but not a large (or bulky) bag. Looks and feels solid, professional. Nicecolor. My wife loves it!

This bag exceeded my expectations. Leather smooth as butter. Storage apartments perfect for laptop, cord, mouse and folders. Perfect!
