Wireless Multifunction USB 2.0 Print Server/Device Server (HMPS1A)

A friend needed to share an Epson NX110 multi-function printer between two computers. Since the computers are in different parts of the house, I got this Hawking print server to put the printer on the network. They used to have the printer physically connected to one of the computers and share it via Windows print sharing, but that meant leaving that computer on all the time and we had some network issues, preventing printing from working reliably.The Hawking print server was very easy to install and has worked quite well. We're using the Ethernet port to connect to our wireless router. There IS a client that has to get connected on each computer. One computer is running Windows 7 and the other is running Windows 10 and we had to install different client versions on each computer. Once we got the clients installed, both computers have been printing to the printer without issue.Very satisfied!

I've had this device for about five months and it's never worked reliably. I have spoken with tech support a number of times. They explained limitations on the wireless implementation the manual doesn't (which security modes are supported, etc) but even with these changes made the device is unreliable. I've tried to factory reset according to the instructions in the manual and from tech support (hold reset for 30 seconds) and the device doesn't respond as the manual says it will. A frustrating experience and wasted $$$.

If you don't have the Hawking software installed onto all computers then you can't find the print server. this negates what my work would have liked. found a better fitting product that meets our requirements.

I was very doubtful about this working, especially on a Mac. I purchased it about 3 weeks ago and to my surprise it has been working great. I have a HP OfficeJet, and not only does it print properly while providing full printer functionality, it even supports the scanner functions perfectly. Presently I have two Mac's connected; one is running OS-X El Capitan (10.11) and the other OS-X High Sierra (10.13). Getting it to run on El Capitan is really straight forward, first connecting the printer via USB directly to the machine; this was following the standard instructions. However, on the High Sierra machine, it was a different story. There are special instructions in a PDF file on the disk that requires OS-X 10.12 and up to follow a special procedure to temporarily change some security settings for a "complete" installation. Without following these additional instructions you will get an incomplete installation and the software won't run. The instructions require you change some setting through the internal Mac Terminal program. While the instructions are complete, this sort of thing is not for computer novices. If it weren't for this extra effort, I would have given the unit 5-stars instead. I plan to purchase a second unit soon as well.

The install was exactly per the instructions. If you have more than one account on the computer you will need to set the auto-connect preference for each one.The only downside is that it might require you to use the Hawking Control Center software to work. I'll play with it more to see if I can setup Win 7 directly and still have all the MFP features.I'm only using the wired network capability at this time, so I cannot comment on the wireless functionality other than to say the setup looks to be overly simple. Not sure if it would work for more complex wireless security configurations. Only speculating on this point.Update 3/23/15: The Hawking Control Center software seems to load, pause, crash, pause and repeat every 20 seconds or so. The Hawking website doesn't seem to have any update beyond v2.49. Some days it is rock solid and others I hear Win7 cycling through the bla-BLANT and BLA-blant incessantly every time the software crashes, loads, crashes, loads, crashes, loads,.....you get the idea. Drops one star to 3.Update 7/30/2015: I have replaced this print server with a different unit. The Hawking USB drivers (cannot remember the exact name) in the Windows Device Manager would for no determinable reason start crashing, restarting and crashing. Hawking never released and updates and I got tired to restarting the computer and attempting to print before it started crashing again. Sometimes it would be a couple of minutes and other times it was good for an hour. I am only leaving it at 2 Stars because when it did work, it worked well.

I purchased this print server to put my DYMO 450 turbo label printer on the network and available wirelessly.For my windows PCs the hawking software needs to be installed but it’s painless and anyone can do it.Our iPhones and iPads can see the printer without any manipulation through the airport (air drop, airport, air print whatever it is) feature.I have not yet attempted to use it from android device but I will and will try to remember to update this review.Overall this print server was meant to continue use from PCs and extend use to iPhones and iPads wirelessly which it accomplishes perfectly. You’ll need to see my upcoming review of the DYMO for how I make that work.This print server is tiny and easily hidden with some 3M nylon Velcro under the countertop.It’s expensive in comparison to others but I’ll say zero headaches at this point and complete confidence in it.
