Great to hike in, hard to pull on
I am an avid hiker on the AT and various southeastern trails and got this skirt for hiking in warmer weather that usually involves lots of rain and/or humidity (and therefore, sweat). I got the size 4, which is what I normally wear in mostly all brands so I felt it was a safe bet. This skirt fits me perfectly once I finally manage to get it over my butt/hips. The waist has NO give or stretch, so I have to shimmy it up inch by agonizing inch over my widest parts. Once it's over it, it not only fits great but I have some room in the waist and it's super comfy. I suppose the silver lining to that is I don't have to worry about it riding down my backside from my hiking pack rubbing against me? Or suffering from a surprise de-skirting? Another pro is the material is super light and fast drying if you get rained on or sweat a lot. I like the shorts underneath but they are a little loose in the legs. I guess I was imagining compression type/bike shorts under the skirt that wouldn't allow for any "peeking". In other words, I don't know if I could wear these with no undies and feel secure while climbing over fallen trees, etc. The lack of give in the waist and loose under shorts are the only reason I took a start off, and even then I will still make sure to pack this skirt on all my future hikes.

Perfect for slender/ athletic hips. Not so great for us curvy girls.
I agree with the other reviewers, it's REALLY hard to squeeze into this skort. Once it's on, it's cute, though, and both the hips and waist fit well (and I'm curvy with a small waist). HOWEVER, I think it's cut for a more slender athletic figure than mine. The asymmetric seams are really cool, but there isn't much room for booty in the attached shorts, so after about 15 seconds of walking, the shorts pull down on the waistband of the skirt in a weird way, causing the fabric above that first asymmetric seam to pouf out. It's like they forgot to account for the hips in the attached shorts. I would constantly be re-arranging the shorts inside the skirt to avoid the "pouf" and after a while it would just annoy me. Oh, and the shorts ride up in the legs while you walk too.I like the skirt part of it so much that I'm really considering cutting the attached shorts out of the skort, and turning it into a regular skirt. If it had been like $20 that would be a no-brainer. But at $35, I'm afraid it will just ruin the whole thing and I'll be out $35. If I decide to cut it out, I'll update my review and let you know if I like it. Otherwise, it's going to be returned.

I love that the draw string is offset to the side ...
Generally, as far as skirts go, I'm a solid 12P at Ann Taylor. I'm 5 ft tall, curvy (OK...overweight), and I have quite a caboos. I'm a Master Gardner and do lots of work with children. Between the constant squatting and the heat...I needed something that would look professional yet be utilitarian. Often size 12, in sport lines run small...but not this one. This size 12 hit just above my knees which I felt was a a bit too long. Also, it just not snug enough for my preference. The skirt is very well made! I love that the draw string is offset to the side and the fabric is such that you could wash it out with a garden hose, hang dry and wear in less than an hour. It is really worth the $ and I highly recommend!

Struggled to get the waist over my butt!
This skort is lovely.... if you can get it on your body. I bought my regular size (in two colors!) and I could barely manage to get the waist past my hips. The skort fit well once it was on and the waist was actually a bit loose. For reference, I have a 26" waist and 37" hips and bought a size 4. I just can't understand why there isn't a zipper or stretchy waistband in a skirt with this sort of cut and fabric. I think I'm going to keep them because I really do love the way they look but I'm kind of disappointed. I would definitely recommend buying at least a size up in this skort if you have hips. Also check out the Patagonia Fleetwith skort. It's a little bit longer but cut similarly and has an elastic waist with a drawcord and pockets.

5 STARS!..... BUT....
PRODUCT gets 5 stars. The condition of the product upon arrival gets one star.Let's first say that I received it in time. It was packed fine with another item. There was however a nice big hole in the plastic bag containing the short and upon opening that I noticed that the elastic was almost completely out of the garment itself. This bothered me greatly because the ribbon used to tie the drawstring and the elastic are two VERY different widths. I reluctantly yanked it all the way out.Luckily I know what I'm doing with elastic. It took me no more than 20 minutes to shove, pull and rotate the drawstring all the way back in. I came close to giving up and exchanging, but it got fixed and I'm over it.Really not impressed with arrival condition, but to the company I will write.THE FIT is perfect. I'm average shape. No ghetto booty or big birthing hips. I'm 5'7" and 150. I got the size 8 and It's wonderfu! Haven't gotten to break it in because It's still winter in Minnesota, but I know Ill be living in it all summer! Super comfortable and easy to wear!

Sweet Little Active Skort...in Red
I purchased two of these OR skorts through Amazon after purchasing one in a brick and mortar store. They are extremely cute and the cut is very flattering especially if you're short. The length is nice and you can be as active as you want with the built in shorts. The shorts are a thinner, liner type of material so you wouldn't just wear those out and about, but the coverage is great and who wants a heavy set of shorts under another layer (the skirt) anyways. Only heads up I would give is the waist doesn't have any "give". I'm lean and I purchased a size 4 and they really keep you honest because there is not much give or stretch in the waist area. If you are hippier, these might be a bit snug getting on OVER your hips, but once on, they feel great. The flare is just right on the bottom, it's not too flouncy, but just right. All in all, such a great skirt that I now own three! (And the brick and mortar store's cost about $25 more than through Amazon!)
