Yes, you can, as per my exp. don't use more medicine/other product, use good canister filter everything will be all right.I use this product only 2/3 time, latter when I start using canister I didn't use this.

Q: Should we remove carbon while putting this product

No need to remove carbon . But u can clear up filter spongs once water is crystal clear.
