I wanted to wait a few weeks before I posted a review to give the box a fair chance (& to air out). I was really excited to use this box as part of a gift for my daughter's 1st birthday. When I opened the packing, I was so happy because the outside of the box was beautiful (a few odds markings/chips, but nothing too crazy) however, as soon as I opened the box, I was hit with the worst smell. I've had it airing out for almost a month (open outside, used all sorts of fresheners, even left dryer sheets inside) and it's still one of the worst smells I've smelled in a long time. It's no longer useful for it's intended purpose and the only thing I think I could use it for would be a planter if I rip out the fabric and put a liner in it. It's a shame and I wish I would've read the reviews in re: the odor before I purchased.

Two sides of this product.#1, it is beautiful. The inlaid mosaic is nice, and the pattern is intricate. It also seems pretty well built. The wood frame is solid, and the base is sturdy. Time will tell if the mosaic stays attached.#2, it smells funny. I think this is the glue used to hold the interior felt in place, which will have accumulated during shipping, so I am leaving it open to air out -- I am hoping the smell will dissipate after a little while (and more curing of the adhesive). As it sits now, you couldn't put anything inside that you intended to use/wear, because the odor would stick with whatever you took out.So I give it 4 stars under the belief that after the odor reduces, I will be left with only #1.

Absolutely beautiful! I love this box because it has enough space to put even bigger items in it. I have seen the ones at Home Goods. They are not the same quality and much smaller. They must come from a different supplier. I ordered a second box after I received the first one. The box is perfect for pens, watches, jewelry, memory cards, flashlights, and gadgets that might clutter your desk. It is sturdy and precision made. It has a lock and key which I will probably never use. A perfect present for any occasion. Highly recommended. The seller shipped promptly and responded to my question immediately.

This is beautiful, there's no denying that, but the small is worst than anything you can imagine. Trust the reviews, I didn't, thinking how bad can the smell be? Well, it stinks! I tried everything, I removed the cover velvet inside. I cleaned the inside wood with water and bleach. I sprayed pet stain and odour remover. Then after all that I stained the inside with specialized odourless wood stain. I let it dried outside. Once inside I used a small fan overnight, just in case. All of these in the span of several days. Nothing worked. Nothing. It still stinks, and please trust me it is worst than anything you can imagine. I obviously wanted to love this box, which I was planning to use as storage for remote controls. Instead, I ended up throwing it directly into the garbage.

The box is beautiful but the thing stinks like sweaty adipose tissue. Yuck.
