Simple install, good theft deterrent
Product was as described, and did not require any drilling. I re used the factory bolts for the hood latch as they were more than long enough. This unit gets sandwiched between the original latch and the underside of the radiator support/grill. It will likely take some adjustments to get it to work perfectly, but be patient as it is worth the effort. Simple, effective hood locking solution.Note: Use great care when installing this unit if you do not intend to remove the radiator. Carefully slip it through the grill opening and bolt it in. Adjust if needed, and enjoy. Use care also when using the key as you might need to push down on the locking lever to allow the lock to turn fully. Something I did do to help with this is to put anti seize compound on the inside of the plate where the lock strikes. That helped somewhat. One more idea is to file the lock tab down slightly to adjust the tension to your liking. Myself, I prefer to just push down on the locking lever so that the maximum tension is applied once the key is removed. Another note: You have to lock the unit to remove the key, which means that if you are working on the engine, you cannot fully close the hood as the hook will be locked. While doing engine work, I did forget to unlock this device and fully close the hood. Fortunately I did not drive fast enough during my test drive for the wind to flip the hood open. I have since gotten used to fully locking the hood prior to driving. Last note: If you do break the key off when trying to unlock/lock and the unit is fully locked, you will have to destroy/deform the unit to get the hood open, so again, use care and a practiced hand when locking/unlocking. Does the job, mostly
This lock fits fine and bolts right up as advertised, when one of the mounting bolts is cut as mentioned in the included directions. The lock tumbler really fights back when trying to insert the key but rotates nicely when the key is finally jammed into place. Lube doesn't help get the key into the lock. Mine might not be typical. The function of the lock can be defeated fairly readily with a long scrwedriver or small crowbar so as far as locks go, it is much more of a deterrent than a safeguard.

Works well. I would like to take the key out when unlocked to leave key on key ring with rest of keys.
Heave to relock to get key out to leave the key on the ring. If locking with hood up remember to unlock when bringing hood down. Does not come with directions but was obvious as to where it went.

Bonnet lock unit

Fit, sort of, but doesnt function on stock 77 CJ5.
Looks good but doesn't really fit (1977 CJ5- bone stock) or work.Issues: -when installed, can barely open hood (latch to lock clearance). -when installed, can not lock (swing of lock makes lock arm hit hood latch and can't go far enouph to actually lock). -with the 6-7 attempts of adjusting, the keys no longer fit and rotate in lock cylinder -the screws to assemble lock to vehicle body are very low grade. Stripped the threads right off using no more than a small screwdriver and minimal effort.All this AND no instructions in the box. Granted, once you see the part next to an open hood the basic install is very intuitive.With some modifications to the lock arm (added bends to lock arm) I might have gotten it to work but with the lock cylinders already ceasing to rotate I stopped trying (not worth rhe effort) and will be returning the whole assembly. I'll also note that I'm a hand's on engineer with a fair bit of fabrication experience.I was in no way expecting perfection but even still, I'm very disappointed.

Not worth the money or trouble to install
There is enough flex in the assembly that you can open the hood without the key. Worthless.

No funciona en Jeep CJ7-1986
Esta chapa no ajusta a un CJ7-1986, simplemente no tiene los hoyos para instalarse ni en la parrilla ni en el cofre.La compre porque Amazon decia que sí ajustaba a mi Jeep y el website de Rugged Ridge da “instrucciones” para instalarlo pero no funciona en estos modelos
