Fascinating look at some very fragile artifacts.
This is a documentary about a huge hoard of documents, written in Hebrew roughly around the time of Christ and found in living memory. Literature written on goatskin two thousand years ago is pretty amazing to have at all, never mind having so much of it. This film spends its time on how the pages are preserved, where they were found and the controversy about who wrote them, who hid them-particularly the involvement of the Essenes, a religious group of the period. But the graves of women and children were found in the on-site graveyard. Essenes were celibate males, not families. So, the Essenes could not be responsible for the writing or hiding of the scrolls. And the bones have been lost to science so no one can check and see if the women and children were buried at a time appropriate to the time in question. What to do? Well, the science guys analyze the clay from the pots that the scrolls were found in. Guess what?.... Not telling. Also not telling about some other cool science stuff covered in the film. This is not about the content of the scrolls but rather about who wrote and hid them. It is interesting to watch.Recommended.

Dated. Essenes/ messianic sect didn't write them. Description of the science -great!
From 2013, with several segments filmed before that.Opinions in the film were already considered imprecise - even irrelevant - already then. The description of the science is really nice but the conclusions are just poorly arrived at.Dr. Elior doesn't even believe Essenes existed, and the film is really bad at explaining their existence. The contents of the scroll never refer to any sect. Everything described there fits perfectly with priests from the tribe of Levy that were "old fashioned" in their view at the time on how to run the temple that was by then ruled by other Levy families that aligned themselves with the ruling Romans. They also were "threatened" by the rising political power of Pharisees - those that became rabbinical Jews after the temple's destruction in 70AD.What's telling to Christians may be there is evidence of revival of early Hashmonai Judaism described in the scrolls. (Habakuk book, Psalms songs, the requirements that mirror Leviticus rules for better or worse, given that those are homophobic). The Jesus sect may have been closer to those old-fashioned priests than previously thought, and I wouldn't be surprised if one day scrolls from Christian sects would be found in Jordan or Egypt (since that was where many of the first followers of Christ escaped to during the first two centuries AD) .

Dead Sea Scrolls
I was able to watch this documentary with great interest because I had heard about the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls that washed up on the shore of the Dead Sea in 1947 but I had never seen what they actually looked like, how were they cared for and restored, what was omitted from the Bible we read, is the information on the Scrolls similar or somewhat exactly what is printed in our bibles. I have been curious, if the Bible was man made and includes what man wanted slaves to adhere to or was it truthful observation and recantation about what others in the world over 2000 yrs had seen, heard and lived. I recommend this short documentary to anyone who is interested in knowing where the Scrolls derived from, if they are real, who cares for them, and how they are maintained. It's family documentary. Take a peek.

Razzle Dazzle Science! Now look away from the truth!
So I guess this is a show about razzle dazzle science they keep throwing at viewers, I guess to cover up the bare fact that idiots control the scrolls, idiots have always controlled the scrolls, and idiots always will. They have non-expert Russian women in charge of these scrolls, they are basically maids with elementary school educations, and they clearly have no idea what they are doing, except for covering up how the Scrolls have been abused and hidden away because of what they represent. There has never been such suppression of the truth since the Council of Nicea made up the story that Yeshua was the son of God, which is laughable and silly. The truth of what they say is right there, but they will keep it all hidden until they have destroyed them. These Scrolls need confiscated and given to real science, not Biblical fools trying to suppress the contents. This whole thing is a sad travesty for the people that just want to know what they say, especially the books stories and gospels that were stripped from the Bible or changed to sanitize or support the Christian lies and the later Jewish lies. I want to know the real history, and the real gospels of Yeshua, not the four fakes ones that were altered to fit the lies (Matthew Mark Luke John). For the love of G-d, there are over 60 Gospels of Yeshua, and they keep them hidden. In some of these Gospels, Yeshua told jokes, he kissed Mary, he danced, he killed children, he did magic....Release the documents to real science, not those Russian maids and old ancient Christian monks who want the documents hidden because they pre-date and contradict the Christian Bible. This program is so boring, no content at all, by design, and all the people involved should be ashamed for their idiocy and their suppression.

Interesting, but Not Spellbinding
The quality of the picture really detracts from the movie. Everything is grainy and fuzzy. Interesting to know where the jars were made and by whom, but I was hoping for more information ABOUT the scrolls themselves that I didn't know. Glad I didn't pay to watch it.

Good intro to the subject but leaves a lot unanswered
I liked the background of the discovery and the preservation efforts and research. Answers some questions but leaves a lot more. Does not address who is funding the preservation and why so much material was lost.
