EARLY DAYS
This book had a decent storyline that loosely flowed to the end. The characters were not as strongly developed as expected.

A hard to find gem....
I bought this book as a paperback as it didn't appear to be available in ebook and even then is was not widely available.Having just finished the TV series via BritBox, it was nice to see this book, as far as I can recall, had not been part of the TV series. It followed the now established format for this detective series altho' Pascoe was the major character this time with Dalziel playing a somewhat lesser role in another case that ultimately ties in with Pazcoe's case. Good story, did not disappoint.

Good Solid Mystery and Story Telling
There are more twists and turns in this story that I would have thought possible when I began to read it, but then again, there are more injuries than usual as well. Because for Peter Pascoe, his world has been twisted inside out as he travels to spend a weekend with old college chums, only to find them murdered. And he's in an area where he has no jurisdiction and no control of events and happenings. Little seems to be happening to move the case along -- other than to search for the one friend whose body hasn't turned up in Thornton Lacey.Meanwhile Dalziel has his own concerns -- he doesn't feel well and a doctor's visit sets him on the straight and narrow when it comes to drinking and diet. And he may be going soft too. What a way to go for the two policemen who are each in for tussles and false leads.

D and P: Ruling Passion
I have just finished watching the above named story and just about completely finished reading the book. Again, I'm a little disappointed that the book and tv show differ and not all the characters identified in the show are not in the book. Also, the story is a little differant. The tv show has Ellie and Pascoe already married and are expecting the baby, and they ask "Andie" to be the Godfather. The book has no mention of this at this point. Still waiting for Sgt Weld to be introduced. To me he is an important character in the stories. Now don't be misunderstood, I really liked both the show and the book and will continue to purchase the books until they are all complete. And, I also understand what is already in existance can't be changed.

A Ruling Passion - Dalziel & Pascoe, #3
This is the 5th Reginald Hill novel I have read and is my favorite so far. The caracter Ellie was developed more and her relationship with Peter Pascoe advanced. Dalziel is even made to seem more human, although he does keep on scratching. Hill does a good job of keeping the solution obscure until the end. I was left looking forward to reading the next Dalziel & Pascoe story.

Good Mystery by a Good Writer
This is the first book in Hill's Daziel/Pascoe series. It is different in some way that's hard to define. It may be that as it was the first book, the writer had not had as much time to develop the characters. Even, the book is a several cuts above run-of-the-mill mysteries. I highly recommend this book.

Interesting story
A nicely set mystery where the characters are far from perfect but so very true-to-life. Pascoe and Ellie's evolving relationship adds to the plot but is done in a way that doesn't overwhelm the story.

Hill at his best
Great writing as usual by Reginald Hill. It's all there humour, scenic descriptions etc as Dalziel and Pascoe set out to try to solve shocking murders that are very close to home.Hill at his best.

Read, enjoy and don't be afraid to laugh.
An excellent read as usual with a number of "laugh out loud" bits. Hill has a fine way with words and an understated sense of humour.
