I really like the bed, but I have questions on the quality of the wood used.
I ordered this bed for my 3 year old son who was overjoyed when we received it. He could not wait to "help" me put it together and sleep on it. The item arrived on time, and with no damage to the packages. The items inside were all in good condition also. The bed took about an hour to put together from un-boxing to cleaning up. The only problem during assembly was on of the pre-cut holes for the hardware was not cut deep enough and the bolt did not line up with the nut. It wasn't a big deal, just took a chisel and made the hole a bit deeper and everything fit. The bed looked great when we finished. There is a strong smell from whatever they used to stain or seal the wood. It can be overpowering if its in an enclosed space. I had to turn the fan on and open the window for it to air out. This helped, but the smell is still noticeable. My son slept in the bed that night, and just loved it. If this was where the review ended it would have been a 4 star bed....but its not.The next day my son was sitting on the bed looking at a book and the wood side rail just split in half. I was in the room and was shocked at what I saw. My son weighs 32 lbs. and this wood snapped like a toothpick. I contacted Canwood and they are sending a replacement piece. I really hope this was just a bad piece of wood. I will update once I get the new piece, but for now I am not sure how good the quality is on this bed. If I have anymore problems like this, the bed is going back!

Horrible company!!
Here is a list of the issues I have had with our order1. delivery took a long time, when we paid extra for quick delivery. Amazon did refund the shipping charge though, which is appreciated.2. Received 2 boxes. One box contains the head board and foot board. The other (HUGE AND HEAVY) box contains a bunch of wood slats and random large pieces of wood. It also contains 2 (I believe they are) the side part of the bed.So when looking at all these pieces, I look a the bottom of the boxes and one says "base camp twin bed" The other box (the HUGE AND HEAVY one) says "mate" double bed!! So they send half of the bed I ordered, and half of a totally wrong bed. Really, this company is not competent enough to match up 2 boxes? really?! Can't get that right?!3. NEITHER box contains ANY ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL OR ANY HARDWARE. In fact there is nothing in the boxes at all except the pieces of wood. Again, really?! They just send huge boxes of pieces of wood with NO instructions and NO hardware..Nothing?! What?!4. Their website is completely USELESS. I click on "view product demo" and NOTHING. I click on "download assembly instructions" and NOTHING. Most of the pages within their website don't work at all (like the 'FAQ' page, just comes up with nothing, a bunch of other pages just say 'coming soon' and there is nowhere to leave any comments or reviews..wonder why that could be..?)5. I tried to call them yesterday and was not able to get through to anyone. Today of course they are closed and tomorrow too.I now have a bunch of huge heavy pieces of wood all over our small apartment, 2 disassembled huge boxes,a disappointed toddler who has to continue sleeping on the floor and an incompetent company, that I have not been able to reach. So I suppose I should pack up the huge box of heavy wood pieces and ship it back?First of all, no way I can lift that box, second of all, it won't fit in my car...hence the ONLINE ORDER!I am so dissatisfied with this company!! Unbelievable!

Great bed for little ones
Ordered this bed as our son's first big boy bed. This is a great product for the money! I had two concerns based on prior reviews from this site among others: the big sticker on the headboard and the strength of the support slats. As for the sticker, I simply held a blow dryer to the sticker and slowly peeled it off. It came off clean leaving no residue. Easy fix.As for the support slats...yes, they could be stronger (hence my 4 stars). My husband put some weight on a single slat and it could easily break. However there are more than 10 slats and once you add the mattress, the weight is evenly distributed and I don't have any concerns. The bed is very sturdy, I have sat on it with my son and there were no issues. The finish is beautiful and matches other pieces of furniture in his room which is exactly what I wanted. Easy to assemble with no issues either.Overall, great purchase and we're quite happy!

We liked it enough to buy another one for his little ...
This is the second Canwood Base Camp twin bed we have purchased. The first was for our, then, 3 year old son. We liked it enough to buy another one for his little sister who is now 2 1/2. It's well made and very easy to assemble. It's a nice espresso color, and my wife loves the simple, elegant design of the bed. I did notice that the second bed had small QC issues. One of the blocks that is used to keep the attached slats of the bed aligned on the frame was misplaced (glued and stapled). I had to carefully pry it up and place it in the correct location. I did not have this issue on the first bed. Not a huge deal but worth noting. The only other thing was that the holes on the footboard for connecting it to the rest of the bed were on the opposite side, as compared to the other bed. So basically, even though both sides of the footboard are nice, whoever manufactured this one simply put the screw holes on the "wrong" side. Overall, though, we're happy with our purchase.

Good value
This is a good value. It took about two hours to assemble. I was glad I read about the big warning sticker so when we went over the instructions, we realized that if you switch "AL" and "AR" the sticker ends up on the back where it is not visible. The footboard will require wood glue for the top despite the screws that it comes with. We just put it together tonight and our 3 and 2 year olds are sleeping soundly! We did add the Babyhome side rails which worked well with the slats. We did not use a box spring in the bed as it is already 12 inches off the floor. Not sure that this will last 10 years but it appears to be a good bed for young kids transitioning out of the toddler bed.
