Missing pieces, for kids only
I purchased this bunk bed for my 6-year-old daughter (on top) and 4-year-old son (on bottom) after much research. Pluses about this bed: high off the ground, allowing for under-bed storage; sufficient space between bottom and top bunk (enough for an adult to sit up straight); beds come apart. Negatives: weight max on top bunk is 165 pounds -- this is not in the product review, which indicates this bunkbed is sufficient for adults; it came in five boxes with missing pieces and terrible instructions -- it took one handy person four hours to assemble (including the time it took to find appropriate screws). For comparable beds made of real wood with the same dimensions, the Canwood is a bargain. However, if I could have waited, I would have saved some more money for a better model from Popsicle, Restoration, Oeuf or Pottery Barn.

Decent bed, lousy instructions
After researching a lot of bunk beds, I chose the Base Camp because of the higher height. Look at most bunk beds and the height is around 5 feet. This one is 6 feet (to the top rail), so there is ample space between the bunks. As other reviewers have mentioned, however, this company (Canwood/Stork Craft) really needs to improve their instructions. If you think IKEA instructions are frustrating, you have not tried Canwood/Stork Craft. I think it took me 5 or 6 hours to assemble this bed over two weekends and I've assembled plenty of furniture. Watch out for the support slats -- they are very sharp and full of splinters. Finally, just when you think you're getting close to the end, the instructions for the ladder are horrendous. Overall, I'm happy with the bed but those 6 hours are gone forever.
