Liberty Fund puts out some of the greatest works in affordable, high quality products. This work of Hume is absolutely terrific, and is my favorite Liberty Fund publication along with Lord Kames’s works. As one reviewer has noted, some of those criticizing this work are not referring to the Liberty Fund publication.

As promised

David Hume is one of the critical thinkers of the Enlightenment, so understanding his ideas is extremely helpful in trying to understand what America was intended to be. However, this edition has some crucial passages removed, without any indication that something was removed.There is a two-volume set for Kindle which appears to be more complete (it might be absolutely complete).

Hume's essays represent some of his best writing. Each essay presents a concise and thought-provoking argument or idea, perfect for rumination or discussion. And this edition could not be better: beautifully set text on quality paper with helpful (and judicious) explanatory footnotes, plus a glossary for unfamiliar terms and phrases.

For your own sake, DISREGARD the 2 and 1 star reviews. They are referring to another edition. This is the finest editions of Hume's essays. It is beautifully printed and the quality of the paper and layout is superb. Love this book.

Fantastic. Hume at his very best. American readers will be interested in essays about politics and economics which influenced the authors of the US Constitution.

False advertising! This text is not an edition of Hume's Essays. It contains only a very small handful of (abridged) selections.

David Hume is the greatest essayist in the English language. This collection shows his significant contributions to economics and political theory as well as his more famous philosophical ideas.

La rilegatura del libro è fantastica: il libro si presenta davvero elegante. Inoltre l'edizione è ben curata. Il testo è SOLO nell'originale inglese perciò lo consiglio ad un pubblico altamente specializzato (partendo dal presupposto che già di base non si presenta come una lettura per tutti)

This is a fine book: it is beautifully produced and printed by The Liberty Fund, and judiciously edited by Eugene Miller (that is to say, not over- or under-edited, neither obtrusive nor overly scant on commentary); it contains fascinating additional material such as Hume's brief account of his life and Adam Smith's letter on Hume's final days (both given a perfectly judged level of illumination by the editor), and, of course, many fascinating topics treated most incisively by this great philosopher. It must also be said, that these essays can be understood by the non-philosophical, such as myself, as they are written in a less formal (though no less attractive) style, free from the sometimes mystifying terms of formal philosophical argument. They are perhaps better described as essays of great wisdom than rigorous philosophy.
