Unstable when stacked per manufacturer instructions
Overall I like K&M microphone stands. I own several tripod base stands with booms and I own two of these one handed stands.Stacking... The instruction sheet included with the stand is in German, which I don't read. But there are illustrations that I can follow. The manufacturer recommends that you stack the stands by aligning the post from the top stand over a round hole on the lower stand. The problem is that the hole is too small for the top stand to fit all the way through. The result is that the top stand floats and wobbles around the small hole and the base of the top stand doesn't make full contact with the bottom stand. It's difficult to describe in words but the bottom line is that it's not stable in this configuration. What does work is if you align the pole of the top stand over the larger cutout area of the bottom stand. This configuration will allow the base of the top stand to make full contact with the bottom stand and be stable.Size of microphone tread... The product description doesn't specifically state it, but in case you're wondering, the microphone thread size is 5/8 inch, which is standard in the US for most microphone stands. It is not 3/8 inch, which is common on Europe.Shaft locking mechanism... The one-handed grip allows you to easily adjust the height of the stand with one hand, but it comes with a trade off. The result is that it doesn't lock as tightly as a tradition twist lock stand. With moderate force you can push the shaft down without pressing the release lever. This behavior is more noticeable when you have a heavier microphone mounted on the stand and push down on it lightly. The shaft may move easily while in the locked position.Overall it's not a perfect design but it is very convenient to adjust the height of the stand. This stand is also less costly than some other one-handed stands.

A better mousetrap!
I run a small touring sound company that specializes in vocal & acoustic acts. I have five of these, and my performers absolutely love them. The grip-clutch mechanism for raising and lowering the mic is very intuitive, and is as smooth as silk and silent in operation. As compared with tripod-style stands, the round-base version are mildly trickier to transport, but note that the bases in this variant nest inside each other. When stored in the studio, they are extremely convenient and take up very little space... see attached photo, which shows five of them nested together. When I take these on the road, I use two large Velcro straps, one near the bases, and one near the heads, and cinch the bundle of five together tightly. They move around pretty well that way, and don't really take up all that much volume. If you had to move a large number of these in a true touring environment (trucks, roadies, etc), it would be worth it to unscrew the stands from the bases for transport and design a flight case insert accordingly.Anyway, I find these to be a vast improvement over the traditional mic stand design. The clutch grip style is available with other base configurations if you look around a bit. Enjoy.

Sturdy, grest product!
I was looking for a sturdy microphone stand for producing various media pieces in-home, and this is perfect. the base is metal and heavy, and the stand piece of pipe is sturdy as well. Love the grip that moves the height up and down. So easy especially for my arthritic hands. I am so happy I ordered this, as I have ordered others in the past and they were not of this durability and stability. Love that I can get more and stack them together because of the cutout on the base .

So far so good..
So far so good... others we have had eventually develop a problem with the braking system, but this mic stand feels more sturdy and well built than some of the cheaper mic stand. I guess the old saying of "you get what you pay for" applies here. We use this mic stand with the CAD 8000 which is a heavy mic... we use if for live broadcasts on radio and television of a local storytelling program called True Tales Live.... it is easy to adjust to match the varying heights of our different storytellers!

Decent operation, but 'wobbly'
Nice soft touch finish to adjust grip. Smooth operation. Stand weighted well. Nice finish. Only real gripe is that the joint where the threaded plug at the bottom meets the tube is not solid, it wobbles and this translates to about 3/4 inch of movement at the grip and several inches by the time you get to the Mic holder (Of which I am using a Gooseneck). I paid top dollar for this stand and it should not wobble like this, just poorly manufactured.

Seriously??
What have I done all my life without these!!Gone are the days when it takes 3 trips to bring out 8 mic stands. These babies stack ontop of eachother. I can carry all 8 at a time now!Gone are the days when adjusting the mic meant an awkward moving and holding of your hand holding the height and your other twisting. Grap, clamp, boom.Gone are the days when your thumb-to-index skin gets slammed by a heavy mic when adjusting. These mic stands are awesome!!!! The only catch is that the handle does not orient independent of the mic clip, so you will have to use the included pieces to "lock" the clip at the right angle.

Perfect for kids or adults
A lot of people are afraid to try to adjust the mic which results in either a contorted hunched over tall person, a short person with the mic pointed at his or her head, or otherwise bad mic placement. This is as close to perfect as a basic mic stand gets.

Great price. Works as described
Great price. Works as described, used for a church so get plenty of use. The old ones lasted about 8 years before the mechanism wore out. Hopefully will give another 8 years out of these stands.

New design is great
I had purchased one of these a while back and the one-hand mechanism actually failed - it was just very sticky and intermittent. I'm giving 5 stars because K & M support was excellent, and they seem to have redesigned the clutch; the new one has been working perfectly for a while.
