I used these nautical map lights to replace the reading lights in the bedroom of my motorhome. This is the first step to replacing all the motorhome's lighting with LED fixtures and bulbs, so I can dry-camp for longer periods of time without starting the generator to recharge the bank of batteries. The light level is perfect for reading in bed.I also enjoy the red LED lights built into this product. The red LED's provide plenty of light to move around the stateroom without bumping into things -- and, at the same time, preserves night vision. (Red light does not dilate the pupils of the eyes, thus preserving night vision.)These fixtures are more expensive than others, but have longer flexible necks (12" compared to 8" with others). They seem to be top-quality, offer superb lighting without that "blue" tint produced by many LED's.

As has been stated in previous reviews the arm does not stay in place as well as I hoped. The light is bright and works well.

Great light...the 'white' is a warm white that makes it easy to read maps, see things at night. It is NOT a bluish white so common to many LEDs... (blue makes it harder for the eye/brain to see at night).The RED is very bright, but does not seem to affect night vision at all. The mount is sturdy/secure.The neck is stiff - but there is some shaking from vehicle vibration. Thankfully, the shaking is not translated into 'shaky illumination'. Some product have lens fluting with lines that become noticeable when the light source moves...thankfully this does not. This is mounted in my Jeep and provides a stable light source, regardless of the terrain. I have a small velcor strap that I use to secure the light when not in use to prevent it from being banged around/rattling against my other equipment mounts. (This is not necessary, but I prefer to have things secured out of the way when not in use...the chart light does NOT rattle or move enough to bang into a surface if left a 0.5-1" away from a surface.)5 stars for being a great product...-1 star for not having a dimmer (at this pricing point...it should).= 4 Stars overall.

Because of one of the reviews claiming that the gooseneck on this lamp was not rigid enough to hold the light suspended on it's own I almost didn't buy it.However, due to the positive reviews I decided to roll the dice and I'm glad I did!I installed this above my chart table in a horizontal position against one of my instrument panels. The light stays perfectly oriented as the gooseneck has more than enough rigidity to keep it in place. I'll try to include a photo of the installation for clarity.Some other features I liked that were not obvious in the description were... 1. The lamp is secured by 3 screws that are hidden by a plastic cover for a nice clean installation worthy of anyone suffering MOCD (Mariners Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Where everything on ones yacht must be perfect) 2. More importantly, the switch is a 3 position variety that doesn't require cycling through one color to get to another. For example, the center position is off. If I want red illumination I push the switch to one side and if I want white I push it to the other side. I don't have to cycle past a white light at night to get to red which was a concern.The red LEDs are a little more focused than I expected. Installed at 24 inches above the chart table the light casts a clearly distinguished bright circle about 14 inches in diameter that rapidly diffuses outside of that area. Articulated to a height of 30 inches it casts a 20 inch circle.When using the White LED array the light is focused on an area about 35% smaller than that of the Red LEDs.Had I known this information in advance I would have purchased the lamp without hesitating rather than mulling it over for a couple of days while almost buying a different one at greater cost.

I needed a new white/red LED lamp over my sailboat's chart table. It was easy to install, and the neck was not flimsy, as other reviewers noted. You have to remember that some LED lights (this included) only allow wire connection one way - incandescent 2-wire lamps can be wired to either incoming wires.

I had a lot of problems with the lights not working right. I really don't know the reason (made sure I had a solid ground, good voltage), but they would turn off for no reason, turn on for no reason, not work for no reason... then after they stopped working after a rain (installed in my vanagon westy but never found a leak), after drying out, the now work consistently. for the price... not worth the headache. Also, it would be nice to have a different on/off switch that could turn on either without having to toggle through both lights each time.

The light output is good.Difficult to adjust, it has a limited range of adjustment and the flexable shaft does not hold its position beyond a small arc.The switch is flimsy and small.Contacted the supplier and got a blow off answer with no follow up.An expensive mistake.They were bought to install as reading lights in a Motorhome.

Works great, well made. I have it mounted over the power board and navigation station. It's the first light I turn on and it's bright enough not to use the dome light .
